Gasoline

Gasoline is a hydrocarbon that is composed of only hydrogen and carbon molecules. The chemical formula for gasoline is C8H18. When gasoline is burned with the help of oxygen molecules, carbon dioxide and water are produced. The burning of gasoline called a combustion reaction. Gasoline is formed from crude oil in which gasoline occupies about half of its composition in a barrel. The negative aspects of gasoline are that it produces too much carbon particles and contribute to global warming. A complete combustion reaction is supposed to produce only carbon dioxide and water as its product; however, there are many byproducts released from the combustion of gasoline.

Diesel

When crude oil is refined, it can be separated into different fuels including diesel fuel. It takes more time for diesel fuel to evaporate than for gasoline. Diesel produces more energy comparing to gasoline. This is why diesel powered vehicles get more mileage. It produces less amount of carbon monoxide. However, some components from burning diesel fuel can cause acid rain.

Bio-diesel can be combined with diesel or it can be burned in vehicles by itself. It is mainly made from vegetable oils or animal fats.
