Examination and Assessment Outcomes

Three students passed with marks between 50% and 59%, five had marks between 60% and 69%, with the remaining three having marks over 70%. The highest mark was 77%. The average mark was 56%, with the median mark at 60%.
Marking and Moderation
Marking was done by the lecturer, the module leader, and moderated by the course leader.
Trend Data
In 2015-16 there were 26 students, the total marks for the module ranged from 87% to 15%, and the average mark was just over 53%. In 2014-15 there were 15 students, the total marks for the module ranged from 86% to 26%, and the average mark was just under 59%.
Attendance
Overall, attendance was good, though a few students appeared to think it was optional, and their attendance was patchy (minimal for one of them). This is reflected in their marks.
Student Evaluation and Feedback
Informal feedback was gathered during the sessions, and students were encouraged to comment on the module. Comments have always been positive and/or constructive, and the module has been adjusted over its three years in response to these comments.
External Examiner Reports
A short commentary on issues raised by external examiners should be included, together with details of actions taken/ to be taken as a result. It is noted that external examiners do not comment explicitly on every module. If there are no relevant comments this should be stated.
Curriculum and Assessment - Impact of previous changes
The module has been improved by reducing slightly the number of topics included, and adding the number of practical group activities.
Another improvement this year was students’ full access to Retail Week via a university-wide subscription. This proved highly valuable to the more diligent students.
Curriculum and Assessment - Proposed changes
The module will be run by a different lecturer next year, but will almost certainly stay broadly similar, as all feedback has been positive so far.
Previous Action Points
Last year’s action points stated: “The taught content for next year will stay broadly similar, apart from up-dating, as student feedback has been very positive.” This continues to be the case, as the very dynamic retail subject matter always needs updating, and the student feedback continues to be positive.
