Module 1-Basic principles and field of view

Please watch the video segments and read the material in the folder 2364-2368 prior to beginning the lab. and set up the first box as shown in the pictures in the file folder names “module 1”. All boxes, clamps, and squares can be found in the cabinets on the west wall of the lab. Use the two squares and C clamps to create a stable hold on the box. You may need to remove the drawer periodically to appropriately secure the clamp for some of the boxes. Make sure to boot up the image capture system on the left hand side of the bench. At the appropriate prompt enter your name in the patient category and a number for the MRN. You will need a USB to plug into the front of the system. There is an orange stylus that can be used to press the capture button which will take pictures for you. Unfortunately we do not currently have a camera with an image capture button, so taking pictures can be awkward at times as you will need to balance the camera or probe to have a free hand to press the button. After taking all pictures for one module click the save button to store the images on your USB, you can then send them to Desilva upon completion of all modules. As multiple people will be using the lab, you may have to re-input yourself and re save images for each module.

#1 Use Box #1 with the top open. Perform the remaining steps and note position of scope in relation to objects. Also note the correlation of field of view with the position of the scope angle. Insert 30 degrees scope with dominant hands and identify center image. Obtain a centered picture of image with viewing angle down (triangle at 6:00 position on screen)

#2 keeping center image in field of view and horizon parallel, rotate the angle of the scope identifying top left and top right corners, bottom left and bottom right corners

#3 return to center, look down (6:00) and retract scope slightly while raising hand to identify letter I.

#4. Move hand to the right and look left (9:00 position of triangle) and obtain a centered image of letter Z.

#5 look right (3:00) and move hand to the left to obtain centered picture of letter A. return to center gorilla position with the arrow at 6 o'clock

#6 position the scope to the 8 o'clock position and retract the scope slowly while raising the hand and moving it slightly to the right. this should allow you to follow the inferior left border until you obtain a centered image of the inferior left corner nearest you.

#7 look to the upper left, rotate the scope to the 11 o'clock position and drop your hand so as to get a view of the superior left corner.

#8 return the scope to the 8 o'clock position from Step 6 showing the inferior left corner. slowly retract and raise your hand, sweeping from a right-handed position to a left-handed position and rotating the scope to 6 o'clock and then 5 o'clock. this should allow you to follow the inferior border nearest you until you arrive at the inferior right corner of the box.

#9 repeat the steps now with the lid on. after completing step 8 return to the center gorilla position and look up with the scope ( 12 o'clock position). retract slowly and note the color of the lid. you have now completed the grand tour of the box. for the remaining modules you should also view all aspects, edges, and corners of the box in the same or similar systematic way prior to beginning the remainder of the exercises.

# 10 now repeat with non-dominant hand.

#11 remove the 30 degree scope and insert the 70 degree scope into the box with the lid off. point the scope straight ahead at the gorilla as you did with the 30 degree scope. while maintaining this position rotate the scope 360 degrees. note that as you look at the monitor you are unable to obtain a full picture of the gorilla face at any one time. This is the central blind spot associated with the 70 degree scope.

#12 take another tour of the box with the 70 degree scope, noting the position differences in the box between it and the 30 degree scope.

Box # 2:

1) insert 30 degree scope into center hole of box and perform systematic grand tour of box.

2) open box lid to correlate position in space relative to what you see in the field.

3) Insert scope into right and left portals and appreciate other viewpoints.

4) position field of view with arrow at 6 o’clock from center portal only, capture image of ford Fairlane, capture centered image of orange smiley face, blue star, capture image that answers the question “are riders allowed on the red truck?”, image of clear triangle, and red orb.

5) Change field of view to best capture image of inside of Ford Fairlane, red lego disc, metallic ring

6) Using any portal or field of view, take centered pictures of 3 black screws, 3 smiley faces,

7) Determine how many stars there are and take pictures of each

20) Take a centered picture of the passenger side, rear tire of the Mustang.

21) Switch to the right portal and take a perfectly centered picture of the word “EVOLVE”

11) take a picture of the back-side of the car
