Mock Presidential Election Project

  • Choose 5 issues that are going to be the focus of your campaign
  • Write a 2-minute speech on what your ideas are for the nation
  • You may be a candidate for an existing party or you may create a new different third party—be sure you know what your party’s platform is either way in case you are asked questions
  • Be prepared to debate important issues______
  • Design a poster with a campaign slogan— ______
  • Create a flyer/pamphlet that describes your candidate and what they stand for – ______
  • Create badges for your candidate
  • Be prepared to do T.V. commercials for your candidate—approximately one minute each______
  • Choose your Vice Pres. and be able to discuss how he/she adds to your ability to be President
  • Primary Elections will be held—then the general election will be held. Elections will be held ______

Tips: Obviously you will need to research the records of your opponent’s party to be able to discuss how your party will do things different and/or better. Obviously you want to gain the publics’ approval, so any issues that you believe citizens are most concerned about—should be part of the focus of your campaign.

Grading:

You will be graded both individually and collectively.

For Debates:

  1. Statements should be accurate and well researched
  2. Should demonstrate understanding of the topic & related concepts
  3. Delivery should be clear and concise without too much reliance on notes
  4. Speak loudly & clearly enough to be heard by the audience
  5. Maintain eye contact with each other & audience
  6. Participant’s statements are relevant to the topic & appropriate for his or her side of the debate
  7. Should follow the appropriate format & time limits
  8. Rebuttal statements are appropriate & show that participants listened to and understood the opposing arguments
  9. The debate should fulfill the requirements of the assignment
  10. Overall, the debate represents the full potential of the participants

Groups will be evaluated by others in the classroom as well as, by me. Each Group member will fill out a group work self-evaluation and I will grade your group on the following:

  1. Each member had a clear understanding of the group’s task
  2. Each member had a clear understanding of his or her expected contribution to the group’s assignment
  3. Group members listened willingly to one another
  4. Members of the group showed strong leadership qualities
  5. Group members encouraged others to express opinions or contribute information
  6. Members presented their information or ideas in a clear and logical manner
  7. Each member fulfilled his or her responsibilities in the completion of the group’s assignment
  8. The group fulfilled all the requirements of its assigned task
  9. Overall, the group worked well together
  10. The group performed to its full potential
