MLS Program Meeting Minutes
April 4, 2017
1:00- 3:00 p.m.

Present: Drs. Kaye Dotson, Barbara Marson, Jami Jones, Lou Sua, Al Jones, Elaine Yontz, & Beth Strecker
Dotson called the meeting to order.
The minutes of the February (taken by Strecker) and March 2017 (taken by Dotson) meetings, were approved with suggested changes.
Dotson mentioned that the Advisory Board would meet in the fall instead of this spring due to attendance issues.
Sua has arranged to have the Graduate Reception brunch in the Green Room of the Croatan at 10:00 until 11:15 a.m.
A. Jones will serve as Marshal for spring 2017 graduation.
Dotson provided a handout – Conference, Ads and Funding Requests. This handout will be put on a Google Document so that MLS faculty can make any additional suggestions or edits. Program Brochure needs to be revised and more swag needs to be ordered.
Yontz gave an update on the faculty search. The Search Committee has selected 5 candidates to interview. One has withdrawn application. Remaining interviews will be April 12, 13 and 19.
Sua shared that there are 80 applications. Six candidates have been admitted. Dotson sent an email to those who inquired about the program or asked questions.
AASL Assessment – J. Jones, Maron, and Strecker will meet next week to evaluate the courses and standards.
Dotson provided handouts and information regarding scholarship and award winners. This list is not ready to be announced.
Sua will be the keynote speaker at the Paraprofessional Conference on May 12 at Joyner Library.
Dotson will be the guest speaker at the Delta Kappa Gamma banquet.
The Curriculum Committee is developing Pirate Paths. Marson provided a handout with the proposed 6042 catalog description and objectives. A. Jones made a motion to approve. Sua seconded the motion. The motion carries unopposed.
Yontz shared course rotation plan for academic library concentration. Yontz made a motion to approve. A. Jones seconded the motion. The motion carries unopposed.

These rotations will be reviewed after a year. There is a need to develop a course rotation for students taking only one course each semester. J. Jones recommended that an orientation should be required explaining the program expectations and the course rotations. Yontz and Dotson will provide an explanatory statement to include with the course rotation documents.
Strecker made a motion to adjourn. Dotson seconded the motion. The motion carried unopposed. The meeting adjourned at 3:00 pm.
