MITZI SIZEMORE, EDITOR ______JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2012 ISSUE

FEBRUARY CLUB MEETING

It was a cold snowy evening, but we received a warm welcome from Marty & Marvin Hanka, who provided us with some yummy treats to munch on during the meeting, along with fun door prizes. I must admit, I myself must have enjoyed 2 fistfuls of Dove Valentine chocolates all by myself!

President Ron Cook brought the meeting to order and among the agenda items was our upcoming Specialty Show this August. Ron and Marvin Hanka will be Co-Chairs for the event, and Rose Shacklett, Show Secretary, with help from Secretary-in-training, Elaine Cook.

The Club elected to donate $100 to Hospice in honor of Leslie “Dan” Stickler's son, who passed away on Christmas Day with pulmonary fibrosis..He was a Vietnam vet with over 100 missions in B-52's. Our prayers go out to Dan and Maxine and their entire family during this difficult time.

We also discussed the Fun Match and Lure Course coming up in May (please see the “flyer” in this issue for details.) Breeder and club member Pam Williams (Henegar) accepted our invitation to judge the fun match, and Marvin & Jackie Burton will set-up and run the lure course. All are welcome to enjoy the fun and festivities!

MISTER SCOTT – RON & ELAINE COOK

Happy Anniversary to Us! One Man's Trash, Has Been Our Treasure.

Nearly two years ago, on March 14, 2010, we saw a Senior Scottie on the internet. He had been picked up as a strayon the streets of Hazard, Kentucky. And, after offering to take him, he was brought to Lexington, Kentuckywhere we picked him up and brought him to Frankfort. A home was already waiting for him in Mississippi.

The next day, a trip to our vet revealed that he was heart worm positive and needed dental work. Thanks to

the love and generosity of the Scottish Terrier Club of Greater Louisville, Mister Scott was treated and cured

of this dreadful disease. By this time, several months had passed, his dental work had been completed and

it was time for him to leave for his forever home in Mississippi. Everyone knew (except us) that we would

not be able to let him go.

Mister Scott is now retired and living the good life in Frankfort, Kentucky. We are so lucky to have him and

we love him dearly. He has been nothing but a sheer joy! We don't know how many more years we have

together, but will make sure that they are wonderful ones for him.

THERE ARE ANGELS AMONG US – BILL SIMMONS (OUR SHOW PHOTOGRAPHER)

Abbey came to us as a foster from the recent hoarding situation in Alabama. Abbey was scared and emaciated when she arrived but slowly recovered to the point we felt she could be placed in a forever home. A well meaning owner was found for her but Abbey proved more difficult than anticipated, bolted and promptly became lost, alone and scared in the unfamiliar woods of Kennesaw, GA. For all involved in her search, the next 6-days were excruciatingly painful. Stepping forward was Morgan Chadwick ( a wonderful angel in human form, who provided the trap and the expertise so desperately needed to save Abbey. Finally, on the morning of the 6th day, Abbey, cold and hungry, overcame her fear, crawled into the trap and awaited the comfort and safety of my cuddling arms.

This is Abbey today, a typical happy and playful Scot in her own backyard. Needless to say, Abbey has found her forever home with us where she enjoys the good life and all the pleasures a safe, loving and secure environment has to offer. We are grateful to Ginger McAfee and Scottie Rescue of Tennessee for the initial rescue and to Morgan Chadwick, without whom this happy story may have had a different ending. But we also thank the Louisville rescue team, the Carolina Scots club, Carolina Rescue and too many to mention Scottie lovers for their much needed encouragement and moral support at a very trying time.

Gratitude and concern are wonderful motivators, but financial donations are the life’s blood of rescue. Without our donations and our dedicated rescue angels, where would our lost souls be? I urgeyou to please consider supporting your local Louisville Scottie Rescue Team , Ginger McAfee and/or Morgan Chadwick, with a financial donation. Let them know how much we appreciate them for all they do for us.
