Description of Dances

Anjum Sharma

Hit those sticks! Hip hop meets Dandia on the dance floor like peanut butter and honey, the moves are the bread, and you're the milk to complete the meal.

Jessica Luttkus

This is a chance to see what can be done with ballet beyond tradition. Classical steps are tweaked to make them more fun and playful. The music leads an energetic departure from the rigidity of ballet.

Kathryn Der, Hyon Lee, Jordan Medeiros

Bringing K-boom to MIT. First song is a flirtatious dance that reveals much of the Korean sexiness. The second song brings it to the streets with a battle between the homies.

Derek Chu, Grace Lin

A fun, intense dance that includes guy/girl interactions and fast, sharp movements. Think Michael and Janet Jackson style and be prepared to dance that way. Costumes will include pin-striped pants, suspenders, and fedora hats.

Augusta Dibbell

This song combines a slow graceful aria with a disjointed techno background. The choreography follows the line of the melody and the movements are expressed by different groups of dancers.

Amelia Laughton

Stealing dance moves from the boy band music videos.

Anna Kuperstein

We’re takin it back with the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Recreate Will Smith’s journey to Bel Air through big, fun hiphop with lots of character and attitude. You’ll see Uncle Phil, Aunt Viv, Carlton, the cabbie with the dice in the mirror, and all your favorites. A dance for those of you who love to ham it up on stage and spend your weekday afternoons watching reruns of the show.

Michelle Machon

My dance is an intermediate/advanced lyrical piece set to Josh Groban's "You Raise Me Up". It is a tribute to the people in everyone's lives that help in times of need and motivate each of us to be amazing people. I am looking for strong, passionate dancers (about 8) that can handle my very flowy style, and also people that will work together well as I would like to try some partnering.

Bettina Tso

A hip hop dance that is just about having fun with dance. It has a quick and upbeat tempo so it will hardly let you catch your breath. The dance revolves around giving impact and surprises to the viewer.

Anna Massie

Primarily a classical tap number with soft shoe steps. There will also be more modern steps as well. Very upbeat and energetic (i.e. crazy happy).

Amelia Laughton, Heather Levites

Only U is a a fun, flirty hip-hop/pointe fusion. The piece is gonna have a JLo/Brittany/Janet inspired chair section, and include a short guy/girl hip-hop partnering portion. To sum it up, super cute, super hot and super original.

Brandon Kraft, Kim Hinchey

It is a story about girls who think they are too good for their guy, but in the end realize that they are the one for them. The dance combines many different styles of dance including: jazz, hip hop, tango, and salsa.

Irene Brisson

High intensity piece, good deal of jumping and turning, sort of an ongoing struggle to reach out versus dominating force of pulling in to a compressed shape.

Ilia Santiago, Viviana Serra

Take a vivid and ethereal Van Gogh. Then spice it up with volatile hip-hop. This is the recipe for the nectar of gods: bodies in perfect harmony to an unrestrained tempo. Simply put it's a party in paradise, just that it'll be as hot as hell.

Heather Levites

Over and Over again is a song that requires tap to act as an additional musical instrument that fits with the tonality of the piece. This particular style of tap is very jazz inspired, yet has aspects of both hoofing and the more traditional broadway style tap. So in other words, it's a totally different way of tapping, to a totally unexpected genre of music.

Abe Hsu, Joseph Cheng

Once upon a time, the Dancetroupe concert had just ended, and Abe and Joseph decided to meet up at the afterparty, Abe by way of bus and Joseph by way of the T. At the bus-stop, Abe befriended ghetto crip-walkin' hoodie's, freestyle student with backpacks on, and little asian girls. At the T-stop, Joseph danced with newspaper holdin' tuxedoed men sitting on a bench, crisp pop'ers, and even a mom and little kid joined in to dance. One can't even imagine what happened after these two groups met up at the afterparty...
