Purpose of Position

The Asia Pacific Growth Strategy (APGS) is governed by the Shareholder Executive Team (SET) and delivered by the APGT. This position is the lead marketing resource within the APGS team, responsible for delivery of marketing support and capacity building to countries required to deliver the overall APGS.

Principal Functions:

As the Marketing expert for the Asia Pacific Growth Strategy Core Team, the job holder is accountable for

  • the provision of marketing expertise and resource needed by the countries in the region
  • the delivery of the growth objectives of the APGS.

Programme(s) Descriptions

The Asia Pacific Growth Team (APGT) was established in May 2008 to develop and implement a regional development strategy for WWF to grow its income from individuals, corporate and major donors in Asia Pacific. Its vision is to increase the proportion of income from Asia Pacific to the WWF International Network to help achieve the global conservation mission. They key objectives of this Strategy (revised and confirmed in 2012) are to:

  • Invest in fundraising initiatives with high risk-adjusted ROI in individual, corporate and major donor segments
  • Encourage innovation in the region by funding promising new fundraising channels
  • Help design, fund and support delivery of transformational initiatives to deliver growth in the region
  • Focus on helping unlock fundraising potential of India, Indonesia, China and other emerging economies
  • Support regional collaboration
  • Invest to increase fundraising resources, talent and skills in the region
  • Provide support services with the most cost effective structure

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the ‘pipeline seeding’ process to ensure countries are developing projects to submit for investment to the APGS
  • Working closely with each country in Asia Pacific, understand their barriers to growth, aspirations for growth, capacity building requirements etc
  • Have clear understanding of the risks to growth for each growth project being developed, and advise on mitigation plans
  • Identify and appoint internal and external resource (including from the Enabling Team, WWF Centres of Development, and the wider WWF Network) to support countries to build capacity and remove the barriers to growth.
  • Working with the Director, and Operations Director, follow up on the recommendations, assist in the sourcing of expertise (internal and external) and coordinate the delivery of Country Assessments (CMAP) and subsequent Transformational Initiatives in the region.
  • Provide marketing expertise, advice and input in to the delivery of
  • three sector CapacityBuilding workshops,
  • the annual regional marketing directors conference
  • the annual regional CEO conference
  • the annual regional Chairs conference
  • quarterly Core Team meetings
  • any sector specific capacity building workshops
  • Identify countries where specific marketing/growth training is required and either provide this directly, or identify the resource needed; act as a 1-1 marketing mentor for countries
  • Assist countries in the development of their 5 year strategic marketing/fundraising plans
  • Review Requests for Investment, highlighting marketing risks, assessing ROI assumptions, and seeking additional input from appropriate experts on the forecast deliverables/growth projections.

Internal Working Relationships

The position communicates:

  • Regularly with Director, APGS on the marketing implementation of the APGS.
  • Regularly with Marketing Directors in the delivery and support of growth in the region
  • Close contact with the Core Team members to monitor the progress of the APGS growth projects
  • Regular contact with the SET to report on progress of the APGS investments, specific country reports, and growth in the region

External Working Relationships

  • Periodically with representatives from WWF International, with reference to the APGS and Marketing
  • Regularly with members of the Enabling Team
  • occasionally with Marketing Directors from around the WWF Network
  • occasionally with the WWF International Communications and Marketing Committee
  • on a project-by-project basis, work with consultants/external marketing experts appointed by APGT to deliver elements of the strategy.
  • Routine contact with other teams such as conservation, finance, human resources and other teams on marketing matters.
  • Stay abreast of the marketing strategies of other non-profits to be both aware of market dynamics and explore possibilities of fundraising collaboration.

Profile:

Required Functional Skills

  • Educated to Masters level preferable
  • At least 8 years of senior manager level experience
  • Demonstrable marketing and fundraising experience, particularly in a multi-country environment
  • Ability to manage to growth targets
  • Strong track record of working in a multi-cultural environment, sensitive to cultural differences
  • Confident, high level of diplomacy and influencing skills
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, able to develop and maintain relationships in a virtual work environment
  • Strong analytical skills and solution-oriented, able to identify inconsistencies and anomalous situations quickly and provide remedial solutions
  • Strong numerical skills
  • Highly organized and excellent coordination skills, able to proactively identify and organize resources for providing support to team members
  • High level of English language proficiency, ability to communicate in another Asia Pacific language preferred
  • A flexible attitude to work yet self-disciplined
  • High level of mobility as regional travel will be required for the role
  • Computer literate
