OMRF Teen Leaders in Philanthropy: Philanthropy is in your DNA

OMRF will offer a premier teen leadership in philanthropy program to Oklahoma students who wish to gain a deeper understanding of the non-profit sector, develop hands-on leadership skills, learn about types of giving, and how they can implement these skills in the community.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

OMRF “Teen Leaders in Philanthropy” will develop a group of teens in the community to be philanthropic leaders and to expand the reach of OMRF to the next generation in the community.

A diverse group of high school-aged students will be chosen through an application and interview process to participate in a program consisting of nine sessions throughout the school year to achieve the following:

·  Develop and sustain long-term relationships between participants and OMRF.

·  Build participants’ skills to lead, volunteer and give through a hands-on project, with supervision and assistance from OMRF Development staff.

·  Provide a deeper knowledge of the non-profit sector, grantmaking, and philanthropy.

·  Meet leaders from non-profit organizations, board members, charitable foundations, corporate donors, and volunteers.

·  Meet scientific leaders from OMRF to learn about their work.

·  Develop relationships with other teens from different geographic areas and demographics.

·  Completion certificate awarded at program-closing celebration with family in attendance.

Class day/days / Generally one Tuesday a month, September – May
Class period / Generally 12-5 pm or 5:30-8:00 p.m.
Eligibility – grade in school / High school sophomores, juniors and seniors (during the program year)
Eligibility – GPA / No specific GPA required. However, students must be in good standing.
Eligibility – residency / Must attend a school in the State of Oklahoma
Cost / Free. OMRF Teen Leaders in Philanthropy is funded by OMRF
Mandatory Opening Retreat / September 8, 2015 12-5 p.m.
Transportation / All participants are responsible for their own transportation to OMRF Teen Leaders in Philanthropy sessions and/or events.

Application Process

·  Applications must be e-mailed, postmarked or hand-delivered to the OMRF development office by March 2, 2015 by 5 p.m.

·  Please keep a copy of your original application in case the original is lost in the mail.

·  Applications must be completed on this form; other than one recommendation form, no attachments are permitted.

·  Applications that are received by the deadline are reviewed by the OMRF Teen Leaders in Philanthropy selection committee. Selection committee members evaluate many factors including, but not limited to applications, recommendation letters submitted and school diversity. Then, finalists are scheduled to interview.

·  After interviews, the OMRF Teen Leaders in Philanthropy Selection Committee’s decision is final.

·  Applicants are notified in April whether or not they have been selected for the program.

·  No more than 3 students from the same school may be admitted to the same class.

·  As the applicant, I understand that if I am admitted to OMRF Teen Leaders in Philanthropy I will be given a space in the program that is then not available to other applicants. Consequently, I intend to accept admission and participate fully in OMRF Teen Leaders in Philanthropy. Further, I understand that my main responsibility is school, and that I am responsible for arranging and completing any school work with each of my teachers as necessary.

·  As the parent/guardian or school administrator, I understand and consent to this student missing school on the days noted, and understand that the student will be responsible for arranging and completing school work as necessary.

·  As the applicant, parent or guardian, I understand that students selected for the programs must attend the mandatory Opening Retreat as shown in the calendar below. Missing any part of the Opening Retreat will result in the student’s removal from the program. Applicants who cannot attend the Opening Retreat should withdraw their applications.

·  As the applicant, parent or guardian, I understand that more than two absences from the OMRF Teen Leaders in Philanthropy program will result in automatic removal from the program. Students who miss OMRF Teen Leaders in Philanthropy days may have make-up work assigned, and may be required to explain the reason for the absence to the appropriate OMRF Teen Leaders in Philanthropy committee member.
