  1. Record weekly obligations
  2. Finish presenting informational speeches to class.

TUESDAY, 05/19: Present information such that listeners can follow the line of reasoning and the organization, development, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience (SL.8.4). Adapt speech to a variety of contexts and communicative tasks, demonstrating command of formal English when indicated or appropriate (SL.8.6). Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking (L.8.1).

Materials: lap tops, elements of speech worksheet, persuasive speech rubric

  1. Return rubrics for informational speeches
  2. Debrief
  3. Discuss use for persuasive speeches, and look at different examples of persuasion in the media.
  4. Review rubric for persuasive speech and begin plan using graphic organizer (outline).
  5. Assignment: finish outline

WEDNESDAY, 05/20: Present information such that listeners can follow the line of reasoning and the organization, development, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience (SL.8.4). Adapt speech to a variety of contexts and communicative tasks, demonstrating command of formal English when indicated or appropriate (SL.8.6). Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking (L.8.1).

Materials: lap tops, elements of speech worksheet, persuasive speech rubric

  1. Prepare persuasive speech
  2. Draft outline on computer and print if ready
  3. Create note cards for speech
  4. Assignment: Finish mini persuasive speech so that you are able to present it to a small group in class. Your “final” product with a typed outline is not due until Friday, 5/22.

THURSDAY, 05/21: Present information such that listeners can follow the line of reasoning and the organization, development, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience (SL.8.4). Adapt speech to a variety of contexts and communicative tasks, demonstrating command of formal English when indicated or appropriate (SL.8.6). Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking (L.8.1).

  1. Prepare persuasive speech
  2. Print outline and attach to the back of the rubric. Make sure you have fulfilled the requirements of the rubric and thoroughly addressed the elements of a speech.
  3. Create note cards for speech
  4. Practice timing and speaking to small groups
  5. Assignment: Finish mini persuasive speech. Print the outline. Be ready for presentations tomorrow!
