AREAS OF COMPETITION, CATAGORIES, SCORING AND WARDROBE

Thank you for your interest in becoming a contestant. The following is information to help you determine if you if you meet the eligibility requirements for our pageant. Additional general information is also provided around scoring, resumes and platform statements. If you should have questions concerning this information, please email us at:

Miss Contestants Must reside, work or attend school in the State of Georgia:

Be a single female between the ages of 17-24.

Be a high school graduate before July 30, 2018.

Be no less than 17 years of age on the date of the Miss Golden Isles Pageant and no more than 24 years of age before December 31, 2018.

Be a citizen of the United States.

Be a permanent resident for at least six (6) months, or a full-time employee for at least six months, or a full-time student for at least one semester in the state of Georgia.

AREAS OF COMPETITION, CATAGORIES, SCORING AND WARDROBE

Miss Contestants:

Private Interview-25%

Contestants will wear an outfit that reflects their personality and should be age appropriate. All interviews will use the Miss America format of the one page resume and platform Essay. No other additional information will be used. The contestant will stand at a podium to answer questions during the interview. The interview will be a “panel style” with the questions being asked in a “press-conference style” by the five judges. The judge asking the first question determined before the interview begins and after that question, there is no predetermined order of questions. Any judge may ask a question at any time. There will be no opening statement by the contestant. The judges immediately start with the interview. The total amount of time will be ten (10) minutes. At nine (9) minutes and thirty (30) seconds, the contestant will be given the opportunity to make a thirty (30) second closing statement. If discussion ends before the thirty (30) seconds is up, then the interview is over.

Lifestyle and Fitness in Swimsuit-10%

Swimsuit must be in good taste. The swimsuit cannot be a thong or string bikini. Swim suits must be approved by the Miss Golden Isles Board. Contestant may compete barefoot or in shoes/sandals. All contestants do not have to compete in the same footwear. Each contestant has her choice of a one (1) or two (2) piece swimsuit of any style. A prop may be used (scarf, etc.) but it may not inhibit judging in any way. From the beginning of the contestant’s introduction to the end of her walk-turn segment, each contestant’s time in the lifestyle and fitness competition should not exceed 20 seconds. Background music will be provided.

Talent-30%

Contestants may wear an outfit of their choice. Talent presentations may not exceed ninety (90) seconds. Only the contestant will be permitted on stage during her talent presentation. Talent presentations must be performed live. Talent routines that are prohibited include: the use of fire, fire-works, swords, knives, matches, bow and arrow acts; live animals and taking off of clothing layers.

On-Stage Question-20%

Contestants wear Private Interview outfit of their choice. Contestants will be asked one question.

Evening Wear-15%

Contestants are allowed to wear any type of Evening Wear (IE. pants, cocktail dress, or the traditional gown). Background music will be provided.

Miss and Teen Contestants:

Platforms

You are asked to list on the resume one platform or issue that you would support through your year of service as Miss Golden Isles, Miss Georgia Coast, Miss Georgia, or Miss America. A platform could be a social issue for which you have strong convictions and wish to make other people aware. Be specific in your platform statement and your views on these issues. Make sure that you have knowledge of these issues and be prepared to speak on any or all of them at any given time. If you have questions regarding platforms, please ask a member of The Miss Golden Isles Board.

Platform Essay

The platform essay is REQUIRED for both Teen and Miss Contestants. There is a sample provided for you on our website. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Resume

The judges will use both the resume and the platform essay to generate questions for the interview. The resume and the platform essay will be sent to the judges in advance so that they will have ample opportunity to read them and formulate questions. There is also an example for you on our website.

Contracts

All titles are contracted titles as directed by the Miss America Organization. Contracts must be reviewed, signed and notarized. You must bring the signed and notarized contract with you to dress rehearsal.
