FIRE DRILL

Please review PRIMARY and SECONDARY EVACUATION

routes with your students.

  • All students are to remain silent.
  • Students should exit quickly and quietly.
  • Teachers are to bring their “SAFETY/CRISIS PLAN Folder” with them.
  • Verify that the classroom is clear and that no one is left behind.
  • Once outside, immediately take attendance.
  • Hold up the green “All Clear” card , once all students are accounted for.
  • Hold up the red “Help Needed” card if a student is not accounted for.
  • Once the “All Clear Signal” is given, students can return to the classrooms

TORNADO DRILL

  • When the announcement is made… “TORNADO DRILL, ALL STUDENTS AND STAFF REPORT TO THEIR ASSIGNED AREAS”
  • Students should be moved away from the windows and classrooms without interior corridors.
  • Students should assume the position, when they are instructed: “EVERYBODY DOWN! CROUCH ON ELBOWS AND KNEES. HANDS OVER BACK OF HEAD.”
  • It is essential that this command be instantly understood and obeyed. Most tornado deaths are caused by head injuries.
  • If students/classes are in…

Recess or PE, they should be brought inside the building hallway to assume the position.

Transition, they need to enter the closest building and assume the protective posture

The teachers should report immediately to the cafeteria and escort their classes into the inner most wall and assume the position.

  • Students should be silent during the tornado drill.
  • Once the “All Clear” is given, students can resume their regular activities.

SPECIAL EMERGENCY

CODES & INSTRUCTIONS

CODE RED PROCEDURES

Full Lockdown (Threat / Incident)

No movement in the building other than by police and/or fire personnel and persons designated by them.

Teachers MUST adhere to the following:

  1. Quickly glance outside to look for any “loose” students. If there are students in the hallway have them come into your classroom during the first seconds of the drill. Students are to be cleared from the halls immediately and to report to nearest available classroom.
  2. Verify that all classroom doors are locked. TURN OFF lights, projectors, TV’s, radios, and any other devices. DO NOT leave for any reason.
  3. Move students away from all windows and doors and safe guard the students as needed.
  4. Take attendance to verify that all students in your class are accounted for. (The Team Leader or the team leader back up should check with any subs on their team, to ensure they understand the procedures).
  5. Check CAB for communication for important messages and updates from Administration.
  6. Demand student silence. There should be no talking in the classroom in order to listen for specific instructions that may come over the public address system.
  7. Do not allow anyone to exit the room.
  8. Students should be moved to an area where they cannot be seen from the doorway window.
  9. Review the emergency evacuation route with the students in your classroom, in case there is an evacuation.
  10. Wait for specific instructions from POLICE, FIRE or ADMINISTRATIVE PERSONNEL.
  11. Wait for the all clear signal

*****If the CODE RED occurs during lunchtime, teacher assistants and the cafeteria staff will assist with the lockdown and the supervision of the students in the cafeteria.

In Transit/Recess/PE:

  1. Collect all students as quickly and calmly as possible.
  2. Report to the closest available classroom and help classroom teacher to keep students calm and quiet. In the event of a code red and you are outside do not enter the building leave campus.
  3. Report to the office your location and any missing students.
  4. P.E. will immediately collect all students and report to the nearest classroom.

CODE YELLOW PROCEDURES

Lockdown (Threat /Activate Safe Team)

No movement in the building other than by the CRT members and others specifically authorized to move in the building

Teachers MUST adhere to the following:

  1. Quickly glance outside to look for any “loose” students. If there are students in the hallway have them come in to your classroom. Students are to be cleared from the halls immediately and to report to nearest available classroom. If you have a student who is not yours, find out their name and homeroom teacher when they enter your room.
  2. Lock classroom doors. DO NOT turn off lights. DO NOT leave your location, unless directed.
  3. Assist those needing special assistance.
  4. Carry on regular class routines and lessons.
  5. Account for students. The teacher should account for the students in the classroom as well as any injuries.
  6. CHECK ALL CLASSROOM DOORS, INCLUDING ADJOINING DOORS, TO ENSURE THAT THE DOORS ARE LOCKED. DOORS SHOULD BE LOCKED AT ALL TIMES.
  7. Do not allow anyone to exit the room.
  8. Wait for the “all clear”, signal.
  9. Check the CAB Conference for important messages and updates.

*****If the YELLOW occurs during lunchtime OR specials, the classroom teachers will immediately report to the cafeteria or special area to assist with the lockdown and resume responsibility for their class.

In Transit/Recess/PE:

  • Report to the closest available classroom and help classroom teacher to keep students calm and quiet. In the event of a code red and you are outside do not enter the building leave campus.

  • If Code Yellow is prolonged, teachers will receive directions for lunch.
  • All teaches MUST check CAB for communication from Administration

CODE BROWN PROCEDURES

Shelter in Place

Threat/incident within the facility. Verify that doors are locked and remain in current location until advised by administration and/or law enforcement coordinators.

Teachers MUST adhere to the following:

  1. Check the hallway outside your classroom door for any students in the area and bring them into your classroom
  2. Verify that all classroom doors are locked.
  3. Take attendance to verify that all students in your class are accounted for.
  4. List all students on the CAB Conference that are missing from your classroom or that you have brought into your classroom.
  5. Check the CAB Conference for important messages and updates.
  6. There should be no talking in the classroom in order to listen for specific instructions that may come over the public address system.
  7. Students should be moved to an area where they cannot be seen from the doorway window.
  8. Close the exterior shutters on the windows.
  9. Review the emergency evacuation route with the students in your classroom, in case there is an evacuation.
  10. Wait for specific instructions from POLICE, FIRE or ADMINISTRATIVE PERSONNEL.

CODE BLACK PROCEDURES

Bomb Threat

(Followed by Orange)

LEAVE all walkie-talkies, cell phones, pagers and radios in the position they are in. Use of the intercoms, bells and tones will be discontinued. Depending upon the situation, a bomb threat will be followed by either full lockdown, CRT activation of the entire faculty.

Teachers MUST adhere to the following:

All cell phones, pagers and other electrical devices are in the position they are currently in DO NOT CHANGE ANY SETTING. If the lights are on LEAVE them ON.

Signals from these devices may trigger an explosive device to detonate.

  1. Visually scan your classroom. Notify administration or main office immediately if there is any suspicious item, package, box, etc. in your classroom that you do not recognize.
  2. Take your plan book, emergency contact forms and the SAFETY/CRISIS PLAN folder off the wall next to the exit door as you leave the room and verify that everyone is out of the classroom.
  3. Students should take their backpacks with them.
  4. Bring any student found in the hallway with you as you evacuate.
  5. Verify that all classroom doors are unlocked.
  6. Check the hallway outside your classroom door for any students in the area and bring them with you as you evacuate.
  7. There should be no talking in order to listen for specific instructions.
  8. DURING THE EVACUATION, PLEASE ADHERE TO THE FOLLOWING:
  1. Instruct all students to follow you to your designated emergency evacuation area unless told by police, fire or administration to go to a different area (Your FIRE Drill location).
  2. Once at your designated area, take attendance to verify that all students in your class are accounted for.
  3. Notify SAFE TEAM immediately using the RED or GREEN CARD of student status.
  4. Teachers MUST keep all of their students together and remain with them at ALL times. DO NOT allow students to go to any other area.
  5. Wait for specific instructions from police, fire or administrative personnel to move to the designated EVACUATION AREA.

CODE ORANGE PROCEDURES

Evacuation

(Mandatory for Everyone)

All persons leave the building according to established routes, or to specific instructions provided by administration and/or law enforcement coordinators.

Teachers MUST adhere to the following:

  1. Take your plan book, emergency contact forms and the SAFETY/CRISIS PLAN folder off the wall next to the exit door as you leave the room and verify that everyone is out of the classroom.
  2. Bring in any student found in the hallway with you as you evacuate.
  3. Verify that all classroom doors are unlocked.
  4. There should be no talking in order to listen for specific instructions.
  5. DURING THE EVACUATION, PLEASE ADHERE TO THE FOLLOWING:
  1. Instruct all students to follow you to your designated emergency evacuation area unlesstold by police, fire or administration to go to a different area.
  2. Once at your designated area (FIRE DRILL LOCATION), take attendance to verify that all students in your class are accounted for.
  3. Notify SAFE TEAM immediately if any student is missing or if you have a student from another teacher’s classroom. HOLD THE RED OR GREEN CARD UP.
  4. Teachers MUST keep all of their students together and remain with them at ALL times. DO NOT allow students to go to any other area.
  5. Wait for specific instructions from police, fire or administrative personnel.

*PRIMARY EVACUATION AREA: PAL Field on NW 70th Ave

**SECONDARY EVACUATION AREA: Plantation HS Auditorium

CODE BLUE PROCEDURES

Medical Emergency

Including,but not limited to, asthma attacks, broken bones(s), choking, fainting, seizures, severe chest pains or severe laceration.

Teachers MUST adhere to the following:

  1. Notify administration as soon as possible by either calling “front office” on the phone, call on the intercom or send two individuals to notify OFFICE if you are aware of any medical emergency.
  2. Be very specific as to what the emergency is
  3. Do not move the individual as this may cause more harm.
  4. Keep the area clear of students and spectators.
  5. Stay with the medical emergency until help arrives.

CODE GREEN PROCEDURES

Threat Gone

All clear, free to resume normal operations

  1. All clear, return to normal activities.
