School News:

1-Students: Your parents can help you earn extra credit in your PE class! Remind them to attend Parent University TODAY in the PVIS MPR from 6:00-7:00 pm.They will learn how Mindfulness can provide practical tools for parents and students alike.Bryan Guthrie MS. LMFT and LEP has 17 years’ experience working with families, children, teens and adults who face challenges related to stress, ADHD, depression, anxiety, behavior and learning concerns.Parent University is free to all adults in the PVPUSD.No RSVP required, adults only please.

2-It’s time to start planning your act for the annual MIS talent show.If you are interested in auditioning for the show, please sign up in the main office by October 11. We are looking for musicians, singers, dancers, comedians, acrobats, and more! All talent is welcome whether weird, silly, or OMG fantastic!!

8th graders interested in the host job, should sign up at this time as well.

3-This Thursday, October 5th is a homework free night. It is also a Miraleste fundraiser at Burger City Grill on PCH in Lomita. Information and the flyer are posted on the MIS website in the 'News' section.You must bring a flyer for Miraleste to receive a portion of the sale. Please join us to support our school while enjoying a tasty burger with family and friends!

4-The Library’s Bookmark Contest ends in two weeks! Winning bookmarks will be reproduced and distributed to students throughout the year. Entry forms are in the library or the front office and due by October 16th.

5-Express Yourself!! Participate in this year’s Reflections contest. This year’s theme is: Within Reach. Choose dance choreography, photography, music composition, visual arts, film production or literature to best interpret the theme with your unique talents.Entries are due October 20th to the front office.Don’t miss out, all entrants will be invited to a celebratory pizza lunch where the winners will be announced.

6-Students, just a reminder: You cannot bring backpacks to class or leave them outside of classroom doors, bathrooms or empty lockers. Please store them in your lockers to avoid being assigned paper pickup.

In Sports:

7-Good luck to all athletes as they face off against Parras Middle School TODAY at the first away game of the year! Go Marauders!!

8-The season continues with Hermosa Valley Middle School bringing their game to MIS on THURSDAY. Be sure to stay after school for the excitement! Games start at 3:30pm in the stadium and gym.
