Strategic Master Plan Update. Joyce Moore and MaryAnne DesVignes reported that the Strategic Master Plan 2008-2013 was approved by SGC at the January 5, 2009 meeting. At the request of the Board of Trustees, the Strategic Master Plan will be presented at the BOT’s April 29, 2009 meeting. The BOT will hold their regular meeting on the LACC campus on that day. The District Planning Committee’s Agenda on February 4, 2009 will include information regarding the format and other guidelines for the presenting Strategic Master Plans to BOT for approval.
Student Success/Basic Skills Committee. Dr. Andrew Walzer, coordinator of the Student Success/Basic Skills Committee, spoke about the progress and plans of the Student Success Committee. Dr. Walzer was named, Coordinator of the Basic Skills Committee Fall 2008, mid-semester. The name of the committee was later revised to be known as the Student Success Committee. Dr. Walzer reported that about $264,000 of Basic Skills funds are left over from last year. In addition, about $600,000 to $700,000 basic funds are have been received this year and these funds will be used for next year (2009-2010). Dr. Walzer is requesting an extension on submitting the guidelines for proposal for basic skills funding to the college constituencies. He would like to meet with SGC to determine the process for funding and reporting to the appropriate committee.
A discussion followed regarding the history and original founding of the Student Success Committee at LACC. The SGC Planning members who have been active members for the past three or four years recounted the following:
SGC charged the SGC Planning Committee with establishing and monitoring a Student Success Committee. The LACC Student Success Committee was established in 2007 and was co-chaired by Jackie Ireland and Myra Siegel.
The committee has met irregularly during the past year and new leadership and membership, under Andrew Walzer has been selected. A question as to whether or not the original committee was formerly disbanded by SGC was discussed and is being researched.
