Please contact Megan Kvols if you would like to purchase either of them. Megan Kvols also reported that there is one adult medium green t-shirt from last year and three adult xlarge yellow t-shirts. It was discussed that these t-shirts be given to new teachers at the beginning of the school year with a nice card attached to welcome them from the PTO group. Fundraising Committee -

Amy Stuart reported that she plans to sell bags at the upcoming parent-teacher conferences to be held on February 2, 2012. She passed around a sign up sheet asking for volunteers to help sell. Amy Stuart will email the sign up sheet to other PTO members as well.

Box Tops Committee -

Angela Blomstedt reported that a check in the amount of $530.60 was deposited from Box Tops. As she was sorting Box Tops recently she noticed many of them were about to expire, she submitted an additional $123.50 to Box Tops before the expiration date. We should be receiving that check in the near future.

Campbell’s Soup Labels Committee -

Arizona Brooks reported that she will add Mrs. Malm’s 9,736 points to what she already has. By the end of the year we will get input and decide if, when and what we will purchase with the points.

Land O Lakes Milk Cap Committee -

Megan Kvols reported that we currently have 520 clean milk caps. Our goal is to collect 1,000 by the end of the year!

Capri Sun Committee -

Jennifer Roberts reported that she currently has a large trash bag full of Capri Sun pouches. She will count them and get them turned in

Coke Rewards -

Megan Kvols reported in Michelle Carroll’s absence that there are currently 533 points in our account.

***Amy Stuart will design a receptacle to be placed in the front entry way. This receptacle will be an easy way for the public to donate any of our pantry items without disturbing the office staff. Arizona Brooks will assist by making a poster for the receptacle.

Teacher Appreciation Board -

Brenda VanLeer will be putting up a Valentine’s Day themed board in the near future. Mrs. Beck said the teachers love having the board decorated.

Roaming Trophy Committee -

Mrs. Hansen’s second grade class won the trophy for January 2012. Mr. Engel will present the trophy to her class and her name will be added to the banner for January.

Playground Committee -

The playground picture is in the process of being printed. Brenda VanLeer needed to put the sponsorship in the correct order before completing the project. Also, Mr. Engel will ask Lyndsey and the janitors from the middle school to assist in hanging the picture.

Teacher/Para Appreciation Committee -

Amy Buhlke asked the group to start brainstorming ideas for the spring appreciation days. A survey was drawn up and Mr. Engel will send it out to teachers. The information gathered from this survey will aid the group in making the appreciation days more specific to teacher/para likes. Ideas: fountain pop delivered to teachers, coffee or hot drink delivery, 10 minute massage, car wash in parking lot.

Track and Field Day Committee -

Mr. Duerkson brought it to our attention that the date selected for the event will no longer work. Jody Kunz will meet with him next week to select a new date for the event.

Parent/Child Dance Committee -

A date change needed to be made because the DJ was unable to play at the originally scheduled date. The new date is Friday February 3, 2012 from 6:00-7:00 in the elementary school gym. The cost of the event will be $5.00 per family. Tyson Benner agreed to DJ the event for $150.00. Tara Kucera will take pictures. She will be selling the pictures at a reduced fee. She is tentatively thinking a 5x7 and wallets for $10.00. The event is for K-4 students with a parent or guardian. The event is to be a “date night” between the elementary student and their parent/guardian. Amy Buhlke reported that Eileen’s cookies will donate six dozen cookies and we will purchase the remaining 19 dozen. Pinnacle Bank is donating punch cups, napkins and popcorn bags, Lone Tree Medical Associates donated $100.00 toward the DJ expense and Central City Dental Center, Kristen Ryan donated $75.00 toward the DJ expense and other expenses as needed. Preferred Popcorn is donating enough popcorn for 300 people and we have a grant in the amount of $25.00 from Sam’s Club to purchase punch.

The theme of the event is “Dancing With Your Star.” Amy Stuart, Arizona Brooks and Christie Kohlhaas are working on the decorations. Amy Stuart is working with the high school to borrow some prom items. Christie Kohlhaas will set up her bubble machine at the entrance to the event.

Amy Buhlke is working on getting volunteers to help serve the snack and punch, decorate, take money at the front door, clean up etc. etc. She contacted the cheer leading sponsor, Miss Carlson and will ask Mrs. Clarke about middle school peer helpers. A sign up sheet will be emailed to all PTO members asking for help with the event.

New Business

A presentation at a Chamber Lunch Bunch was discussed. We feel it is a good way to let the community know how they can help the school. We will present our “pennies in your pantry” program. It was discussed that we would like to present at the July gathering (the 3rd Thursday of the month). Megan Kvols will contact Kendra Jefferson at the Chamber. Pinnacle Bank has agreed to sponsor the meal. Arizona Brooks will help with a power point presentation.

Brenda VanLeer is working on some grant funding to get the afternoon “healthy” snack program back. There is a Nebraska Dairy Council Grant that she is looking into. She will keep us posted.

Principal’s Comments

Mr. Engel informed the group that K-6 grades will be adopting a new math curriculum. Saxon Math is a continuously spiralling curriculum that reviews each day with 10% of the information being new each day. This will replace our current M and M math curriculum. Several teachers will be doing the training in January with the remaining teachers the following fall.

Meeting Adjourned.
