Minutes of the Meeting dated November 14,2017
Bayberry School All Purpose Room
The meeting was called to order at 9:42 am, by Sophia Goldstein, President
Sophia asked that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved. Minutes are posted on the
Watching PTO website. There were no changes and the vote was taken and approved.
Announcements:
- Sophia Goldstein
-Thank you to Class Parents for organizing the Halloween parties at Bayberry. Special thank you to Beth and Wendy for standing out in the cold and providing coffee and hot chocolate to the parents during the Halloween parade at Bayberry. Thank you also to library volunteers and Food Sales volunteers.
PTO Board Reports:
- 1St Vice President-Pina Raucci
-The directory is going out before Thanksgiving. We are just putting in last minute ads.
- 2nd Vice President- Wendy Ruta
-Thank you to the class parents for organizing g the Halloween parties. Everything went smoothly. The Holiday party will be coming up soon.
- Treasurer – Sonia Woods
-The Treasurer Report from October 2017 was reviewed.

Committee Reports:
- Bayberry Picture Retakes and Class Pictures Wed November 15
-Mr. Vignola will send out message to remind parents about class picture retakes.
- KidStuff Coupon Books-Sonia Matinho, Katie Zhao, Stephanie Espinoza
-There are still some books left.
- Fall Food Fundraiser-Nihdali Garcia
- The pick-up date was yesterday. Thank you to Beth and Michelle for organizing and helping out with the food pick up. There were only a couple of orders left to pick up after 6pm.
- Bayberry Library-Michelle Loomis
-Everything is running smoothly. She encourages all of the volunteers to keep coming to their scheduled times.
- Food Sales:

-The next ordering session is coming up in December. Please be sure to place your child’s food order during the next ordering session.

-Box Tops: We are still collecting box tops. Please cut out box tops (place in plastic bag) and send them into school with your childto earn money for the school.

-12/9 is the scrip deadline.
- Holiday Boutique:
-Bayberry-Hue Quan
-We need volunteers for this event-the sign-up sheet is in the back. We need volunteers to help students shop during the event as well as volunteers to set up/break down the event. We also need volunteers for wrapping. Michelle will send out an e-blast. Preschool will have a mini version of the boutique—we will need help bringing the pre-school students around. The specific class schedule will be available soon. The dates are November 28th and 29th.

- Holiday Brunch at Bayberry-December 12
-The brunch will follow the next meeting. We need somebody to help organize this event.

Administrative Reports:

-Halloween went well at Valley View.
-The Photography Club went to the Jersey shore on 10/28. They took photos and they are posted at the school.
-The 7th Grade went to Camp Mason on November 3rd. The trip went well—some of the activities included high elements, canoeing, pond ecology, and orienteering.
-11/6—Picture retakes went well.
-Parent/Teacher conferences- this is the third year that we have used Pick-a-Time and it went well. This allows parents to sign up for slots with different teachers. The sign-up period is open for two weeks. Last year 1 teacher was fully booked. This year 8 teachers were fully booked. We are happy with the system and will be using it again next year. We might be adding more sign-up slots for grades 6-8.
-We were closed for Parent/Teacher conferences last week.
-American Education Week is coming up—the schedule is posted on our website.
-The movie, Screenagers, (sponsored by WEF) will be shown tonight at 7pm at Valley View. It is open to all parents. The movie is 1 hour and 7 minutes long.
-Thursday-there will be a STEM program-Engineering Earth-at Valley View. They will be recycling T-shirts to make bags, and making plant holders. An e-blast will be going out today. Please sign up.
-Report cards-the marking period ends on 11/15. Report cards will be emailed 11/22.
-11/30 and 12/1—Valley View Holiday Boutique
-Play auditions will start during the next couple of weeks for High School Musical. The tentative dates for the play are March 15, 16 and 17th.
- 8th grade trip to NY to see the play “Come from Away”. The trip is on either January 24th or 31st.

-10/19—4th Grade Family Fun night—was a success.
-Friday 10/27–WEF Trunk or Treat—this year it was very well attended.
-10/31-The Bayberry Halloween parade went well. The pictures are posted on the TV monitor in the school entryway.
-11/6, 11/7 and 11/8-Parent/Teacher conferences-90% participation this year.
-11/13 Family STEAM night for grades 2-4 (and their parents) from 6-7:30pm-Ms. Wells and Ms. Pestorius ran the event. They made a shoe out of tape and newspaper as a warm up. The first task was to make a rollercoaster. The second task was to make a tall free-standing structure. Approx. 50 families/175 people attended the event. Pictures are posted on the TV monitor.
-11/13 Stirling Mine 4th grade class trip-had a great time.
-Picture retakes/class picture retakes are tomorrow. An e-blast will be sent out.
-11/17 -The First grade class trip-Newark Museum
-Tuesday, November 21-First grade Harvest Festival
-November 28 and 29th -Bayberry Holiday Boutique- the schedule will go out at the end of the week.
-12/6- 4th Grade Winter Concert (band and chorus) at 7:30pm

The next PTO meeting will be held at 9:30am in the Bayberry APR room on Tuesday, December 12th. A recap meeting will be held in the Valley View APR room at 8:15pm the same day.
