Minutes of the Meeting dated January 9, 2018

Bayberry School All Purpose Room

The meeting was called to order at 9:35 am, by Sophia Goldstein, President

Sophia asked that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved. Minutes are posted on the

Watching PTO website. There were no changes and the vote was taken and approved.

Announcements:

·  Sophia Goldstein

-Happy New Year! Thank you to Michelle and Pina and all others for organizing the PTO Holiday brunch in December.

PTO Board Reports:

·  1St Vice President-Pina Raucci

-The directories have been handed out yesterday. Please direct any questions or complaints to her. She is now working on T-shirts for the 4th graders’ visit to Valley View.

·  2nd Vice President- Wendy Ruta

-The Valentine’s Day class parties are coming up soon. The teachers will be directly contacting class parents regarding party guidelines and Valentine card distribution.

·  Treasurer – Sonia Woods

-The Treasurer Report from December 2017 was reviewed.

-Please address Sonia with any concerns.

·  Recording Secretary- Karen Hauck

-Nothing to report

·  Corresponding Secretary- Michelle Loomis

Committee Reports:

·  KidStuff Coupon Books-Sonia Matinho, Katie Zhao, Stephanie Espinoza

- There are 2 books left.

·  Bayberry Library-Michelle Loomis

-The library is now looking good. However, nobody showed up to volunteer the week before Winter break so the library was not in its usual orderly state. She will send around an email to remind all volunteers to show up at their scheduled times.

·  Food Sales:

-Bayberry-Pina Raucci/Adriana DelForno

The second session has started. Pasta lunch (due to last week’s snow day) will be rescheduled to this Friday. No complaints so far.

-Valley View -Lauren Freid/Jodi Hector/Corine Lesegretain

Food Sales make up day will be on Tuesday. She asked Mrs. Nunn to confirm field trip dates with her. Mrs. Nunn is still waiting to confirm buses for field trips so she will let Corine know. The second session has started. More parents seemed to have missed the deadlines this time around. She will be putting the announcements in the backpack. She is working with Linda on a new volunteer report-please email her with any ideas.

·  Consumer Products –Roseann Sicola

-Box Tops: We have collected $367 in box tops so far this year. We are almost ½ way to our goal.

·  Scrip-Luisa Azeez

-February 7th is the scrip deadline.

·  Movie Night

-January 26th at Valley View. We have chosen the movie SING. We will send out an eblast and put the information on the PTO website.

·  Soup Supper-Wendy Ruta

-The Soup Supper will be held on Friday, February 9th at Valley View. A flyer will be eblasted. There will be a Soup Supper contest. We need volunteers to make soups and chilis. Everyone will vote on the best soups (there will be different categories). We need volunteers to make soup, set up and clean up.

·  Valentine Chocolate Fundraiser

-We need a chair for this event. This would be a perfect fit for a working parent since all the work can be done at home.

Unfinished/New Business:

·  Scholastic Book Fair—we are looking for people to chair at Bayberry (March 14th and 15th) and Valley View (March 15th and 16th)

Administrative Reports:

·  Dr. Resko

·  Mrs. Nunn

-Sorry to miss the December Brunch/meeting. She had to attend the Rotary Club event.

-Thank you to everyone that helped with the Holiday Boutique.

-TREPS club started 12/6. There was an overwhelming amount of students that signed up so they have opened up a second group. (Monday and Wednesday groups). On Valentine’s Day the club will hold a market fair.

-Concerts were on December 11th and 12th—both were successful.

-There was a Rotary club meeting in December and it was a great event.

-The Community Outreach Club hosted a Senior Citizens event on December 15th. It was successful-the Festivus band and choir performed. The kids served the seniors food and ran different activities.

-Friday, December 22nd- the 8th graders were invited to the high school to watch the vocal and instrumental music concert. They returned to Valley View for the school sing-a-long that day.

-January is the “Month of Service” at Valley View. The Narratives committee has a theme set up for every month of the school year. They use Google Classroom for each theme. They watched a video for Martin Luther King Day and will do a service project at Valley View. (students will get to choose a service they are interested in)

-Future Cities- they will have a competition on January 13th. This Friday (Grades 6-8) will present to their own grades.

-Spelling Bee will be held on Tuesday January 16 (Grades 5-7).

-Scripps Spelling Bee will be on March 10 (County level).

-Homework Club begins on January 23 for additional help for students.

-Girls Who Code is a new lunchtime group. Ms. Pestorious will begin this group this week or next week.

-8th Grade Field trip on January 31st- They will see the play Come from Away.

-February 2nd- marking period ends.

-Interim reports will go out this week.

·  Mr. Vignola

-4th Grade Food Drive was very successful. They collected 750 food items and delivered them to the Food Bank on December 19 and 21st. The winner of the pie contest was blueberry pie!

-Scripps Bee-January 3rd and 4th was the classroom competition. January 17th is the final bee.

-Kindergarten Field trip will be on February 5th to see the play The Cat in the Hat.

-PTO Assembly on February 6th-Jazz for Kids

-The second topic of the BLT club (for 3rd and 4th graders) will start this week. There was an overwhelming response so they opened up a second group. (They meet on Wednesday and Friday and the theme is “Science”)

-Holiday Sing-a-long was on December 22—it was fun and a nice send off to Winter break.

-Bayberry will be closed on MLK day—there will be lessons planned this week for MLK.

Questions, Comments, Concerns, Announcements:

The next PTO meeting will be held at 9:30am in the Bayberry APR room on Tuesday, February 13th. A recap meeting will be held in the Valley View APR room at 8:15pm the same day.
