Minutes of the IEEE 802.11s teleconference meeting at 2011-05-19T16:00+02:00 (10:00 ET)

Attendees present:

•Dee Denteneer (Philips)

•Michael Bahr (Siemens)

•Dan Harkins (Aruba)

•Kazuyuki Sakoda (Sony)

•Guido R. Hiertz (Philips)

The great Chairman calls the meeting to order at 2011-05-19T16:07+02:00. The Chairman introduces the vice chairman Guido R. Hiertz. The vice chairman will take minutes. The Chairman introduces the technical editor Kazuyuki Sakoda. The Chairman presents document 11-11/0838. This document contains the agenda for this meeting. The Chairman reminds everyone to announce affiliation before speaking for the first time. Chairman reads Slide 7 aloud, in its entirety. Chairman calls for potential essential patents. No one responds to the call (2011-05-19T16:08+02:00) and no claims are brought forward. Afterwards, the Chairman outlines agenda. The agenda is accepted unanoumously.

Slide 11 of document 11-11/0838is the first one to be discussed. Deleting a peer instance means a transition in the state diagram. Dan Harkins presents document 11-11/0836r1.

Motion 126

Moved to accept the text changes in document 11-11/836r1 “auth-deauth-in-mbss” and direct the editor to include the changes into the Draft when preparing Draft 12.0, prior to the opening of the recirculation ballot.

–Yes: 4No: 0Abstain: 0

Attendees discuss about the definition of the Mesh Data frame and its capitalization.

Motion 127

Moved for CID4124, to change the resolution to: Principle, insert the following paragraph after the seventh paragraph in 7.1.1 (Conventions): “A QoS Data frame that is transmitted by a mesh STA is referred to as a Mesh Data frame.“ and direct the editor to include the changes into the Draft when preparing Draft 12.0, prior to the opening of the recirculation ballot.

–Yes: 4No: 0Abstain: 0

Attendees discuss the ASRA bit and its setting that signals access to an emergency service network. It is proposed to change the text “In a mesh STA when dot11ESNetwork is false, it is unable to support the mesh peering of emergency services and ESR shall be set to 0. When that mesh STA receives a Mesh Peering Open frame, that includes the Interworking element with the ASRA bit equal to 1, it is unable to support the mesh peering of emergency services and does not forward frames.“ to become „In a mesh STA when dot11ESNetwork is false, it is unable to support the mesh peering of emergency services and ESR shall be set to 0. When that mesh STA receives a Mesh Peering Open frame, that includes the Interworking element with the ASRA bit equal to 1, it is unable to support the mesh peering of emergency services and does not forward MSDUs to an emergency server.”Kazuyuki Sakoda proposes that the text “In a mesh STA when dot11ESNetwork is true, the mesh STA can reach emergency services and ESR shall be set to 1. When that mesh STA receives a Mesh Peering Open frame, that includes the Interworking element with the ASRA bit equal to 1, it allows access to emergency services, forwarding frames to a emergency server.“ becomes „In a mesh STA when dot11ESNetwork is true, the mesh STA can reach emergency services and ESR shall be set to 1. When that mesh STA receives a Mesh Peering Open frame, that includes the Interworking element with the ASRA bit equal to 1, it allows access to emergency services, forwarding MSDUs to an emergency server.”

Motion 128

Moved for CID4270, to make the text changes proposed on the slides 17 and slide 18 of document 11-11-0838-02, and direct the editor to include the changes into the Draft when preparing Draft 12.0, prior to the opening of the recirculation ballot.

–Yes: 4No: 0Abstain: 0

Attendees discuss about the definition of the term mesh gate.

Motion 129

Moved for CID4127, to change the resolution to: Principle, change the definition of mesh gate in Clause 3 to: “mesh gate: Any entity that has mesh station (STA) functionality and provides access to one or more distribution systems, via the wireless medium (WM) for the mesh basic service set (MBSS).“ and direct the editor to include the changes into the Draft when preparing Draft 12.0, prior to the opening of the recirculation ballot.

–Mover: Michael BahrSeconder: Guido R. Hiertz

–Yes: 4No: 0Abstain: 0

Attendees discuss about the definition of peering.

Motion 130

Moved for CID4128, to change the resolution to: Principle, change the definition of mesh peering in Clause 3 to: “mesh peering: A logical relationship between two mesh stations (STAs) that is required for direct communication over a single instance of the wireless medium (WM). A mesh peering is established with a mesh peering protocol. “ and direct the editor to include the changes into the Draft when preparing Draft 12.0, prior to the opening of the recirculation ballot.

–Mover: Dan HarkinsSeconder: Kazuyuki Sakoda

–Yes: 4No: 4Abstain: 0

Attendees discuss about the definition of the term “unreachable mesh STA.”

Motion 131

Moved for CID4133, to change the resolution to: Principle, change the definition of unreachable destination in Clause 3 to: "unreachable destination : A destination mesh station (STA) for which the link to the next hop of the mesh path to this destination mesh STA is no longer usable.“ and direct the editor to include the changes into the Draft when preparing Draft 12.0, prior to the opening of the recirculation ballot.

–Mover: Michael BahrSeconder: Kazuyuki Sakoda

–Yes: 3No: 0Abstain: 1

Attendees decide to not to take motion 132. Attendees discuss motion 133. Kazuyuki Sakoda outlines that usually the term obtain goes along with TXOP and not the verb “start.”

Motion 133

Moved for CID4171, to change the resolution to: Principle, replacing “TXOP starts“ with “TXOP is obtained” and direct the editor to include the changes into the Draft when preparing Draft 12.0, prior to the opening of the recirculation ballot.
