  • NFP suggested the possibility of having an ICCA Workshop presented by Juan Jose Garcia – JME offered to sponsor venue and F&B
  • JME mentioned that the AIPC data does not include Africa
  • NFP mentioned that Taiwan presents a very good Bid Workshop (How to prepare a bid) and that maybe the African Chapter should do the same. She mentioned as an example the “How to Bid” document produced by ICCA.

2. / MINUTES:
The minutes of the May meeting at IMEX were read and accepted by JME and seconded by ES/EK / All
3. / FEEDBACK:
1Regional Office Feedback by CP:
  • Training of members on database done in person, by phone and at Trade Shows.
  • Attended IMEX in May, Client/Supplier Workshop Maputo end-July, SAACI Conference (St Lucia) in August
  • Bid Document sent out for proposals to host Client/Supplier Workshops 2015 & 2016
  • 4 new members since IMEX: Rwanda CB, MCI South Africa, IEBE (Interpreting & Equipment for Business Events) and South African Airways (who re-joined as a member)
2 Board/Financial Feedback by NFP:
  • NFP gave an overview of the Financial statement and gave some feedback on the Board Meeting.
  • Her term on the Board is reaching its end and the seat will be available for a new African member. Nominations should be sent to Pat Soen at ICCA Head Office before end of August.

4. / MEETINGS AFRICA/IBTM AFRICA IN CAPE TOWN:
  • Meetings Africa went very well, with a much larger number of African exhibitors and visitors than in previous years. The Association Day was very good and the Client/Supplier Introduction was well received.
  • IBTM Africa was well attended for a first show and the general feedback was that the quality of buyers was very high.
AKN mention that time should be allocated for discussions on Meetings Africa at the next Chapter meeting / CP

5. / CLIENT/SUPPLIER WORKSHOPS:
  • It was announced that the next Client/Supplier workshop will take place at the Joaquim Chissano ICC in Maputo.

6. / ELECTIONS FOR CHAPTER CHAIR & VICE CHAIR
  • CP mentioned that elections for Chapter Chair and Vice Chair took place and Gadi Mbuya was elected as the new Chair. Cheryl Mulder-Verbrugen had been elected Vice Chair, but since she was no longer working for the Cape Town Convention Bureau a new election for Vice Chair would have to take place. AKN nominated Fred Simiyu from the Kenyatta ICC during the meeting and he accepted, becoming the new Vice Chair.

7. / MEMBERSHIP DRIVE
  • CP emphasised the need for everyone to be on the lookout for new potential members and asked that new leads be sent to her for follow up.

8. / ICCA AFRICA CHAPTER WEBSITE/NEWSLETTER:
  • Website update done on an on-going basis by Head Office.
  • Member attending the meeting suggested that a sub-committee be created to deal with the Chapter Newsletter. Following members volunteered: Thiru Naidoo, Mala Dorasamy, Deus Kulwa, Esmaré Steinhöfel and Yoshini Singh
