  1. Approval of Minutes from last meeting

  • Matters Arising from Previous Minutes
  • SU VP Education and SU VP Lansdowne will speak to Philip Ryland and Deidre Sparrowhawk to talk about policy on Mitigating Circumstances. Still being looked in to by both.
  • Meeting with Caroline Earth, Research and Information Manager and General Manage re international support. Will report back to exec at later date. Murray to present at Senate once data gathered.
  • President to speak to SNT re police ID query. SU President has emailed. Waiting to hear. She will phone if no reply to email.
  • PGR Officer/SU VP Education to collaborate and share info to speak to Fi Knight re involvement in feedback from surveys. Jamie in meetings over next 2 weeks. Murray will also attend and both to feed back at a later date.
  • Rep & Democracy Manager/Richard Frame will help Mature and Part Time Officer to log in to emails. On-going. Still an issue. Student Parent Officer to email her tonight
  • FT Officers to investigate why Nerve not played in Commercial areas on Talbot Campus. FTOfficers to speak to Alan Dove.
  • SU President to speak to SNT – re Taxi/burglary issue. Still being looked at.
  • FT Officers to discuss with General Manager and report back at next meeting re part funding of PGR Trip. Ruby said to be calculated on a per head basis as no idea of likely numbers. FT Officers reported back to PGR Officer that £10 per head agreed.PGR Officer thanked SUBU for their support. SUBU thanked PGR Officer for championing the PGR Students.
  • SU President to email to request help re the PR Society. SU President to speak to Community Officer.
  • Commercial Manager to consult with FT officers regarding finer details of pricing for the Summer Ball Tickets. FT Officers may consult with some Exec Officers too. Still being worked on. Report back next meeting.
  • FT Officers to speak to the General Manager about Living Wage/Unite campaign. To be raised in Hedgehog Meeting. SUBU cannot actively support.I.e. support in principle but not in practise.
  • FT Officers to speak to AJ re Fee increase. £82k up to £85k.Discussed. General Manager confirmed this is normal.
  • Letting Boards – BU letting signs. Residents and students oppose. FT Officers and General Manager to discuss. Louise to speak to Matt King – Winton Community Officer with Bournemouth Council.

  1. Officer Reports
SU President– Last ThursdayvisitedWiltshireSalisbury college. Eye opener. Small Halls. 80 beds for HE students. Not much to do. No clubs. With SUBU PI Co-Ordinator to organise trip to bring them to BU campus. Give them more a feeling of belonging. SUBU theme evening and meet officers. Should be in calendar for next year. Also to get there during arrivals period.
Filmed BU Harlem shake for NSS survey.
Discussed Results transcripts with Advice and BU, re ‘small print’ about Students right to appeal which appears in BU literature. Now to be revised and easier for students to find and read.
7.05pm – Jamie left the meeting.
Also met with Scot and Joff re leadership proposal. Looking in to viability and funding.
Bursaries Implementation Group. Re miscommunication of info. All now clear on the website.
Looking at pre-paid debit cards to buy items but not to get cash back.
Also looking at redistribution of any remaining funds each year.
Hustings on Monday and Tuesday on both campus’s for Officers elections. Talked to john Vinney re disabled facilities.
Bigger disabled toilets on campus with hoist etc. for independent and assisted help. Gillie raised recent case from Student Rep in School of App Sci where lecture access for a disabled student had not been taken in to consideration. Re toilets – baby changing for CP children whose parents are students. Cathy suggested Occupational Therapists could give good advice and recommendations on required facilities. To be considered for new Student Centre and academic spaces on campus. News for Suburbia filed.
Meeting re Road Safety campaign – 25th March agreed. Part of healthy week, and can push cycling and safety. Video of how locks can be easily broken in to.
Survey of usage coming out soon on how Student space should be used in new building.

International Officer –.Met Jay from PG school, re PG International Students. Talked about lectures, language, assignments etc. Jay works with Tian Tian, and they are going to get more involved internationals with plan to have free PG lunch, summer trip, sports events, and International Officer to do research. SU VP Campaigns advised SUBU may be able to help with this and also suggested doing poll/survey on Facebook to find out what events they would like to do. 14thMarch EBC FreeLunch for PG’s. EBC Diversity Event today. Went really well.
SU VP Campaigns– Full on with Elections. ‘News from SUBURBIA’ filmed and link to be posted. ‘Which One?’ Post was really good. This week filmed in BOHO lounge for volunteering week,and organised Hustings for Elections. Meeting today re Student Centre and Estates plans to communicate to Students. Also Ready Get Set Cook after elections during wellbeing week in Atrium. Wristbands for march campaign on order.
Student Parents Officer- Cleared diary to go on the Championing Mature Students Seminar, providing funding available. Train fair is expensive. ACTION –SU President to finalise this for Cathy. Liaise with Karen re member of her society to also attend. Mental Health eating disorder week. Part of campaign to encourage and raise awareness. Positive and well attended. / Louise / ASAP
  1. FT Elections update. Nerve doing constant updates to create an on campus buzz. Elections booths to be manned by SUBU staff. Results announced at 7.00pm next Friday. Cathy would like to know if children allowed in Dylan’s in the early evening. ACTION – General Manager to check.

  1. Online Petition approved. Relays Legacy Project for post – Olympics. Students from Sports Academic Dept. They have been doing recent work however funding has been cut. Petition to be raised. Petition can go on SUBU website. Permission has been given by Louise and Alan. Reminder to all Exec – e-petitions can be done on line on the SUBU website.

7 – AOB
  • Recently the BU American Football Team causedunnecessary mess on a Coach on way back from game causing extra cleaning expenses. Coach Companyhas requested £100 for extra – clean-up costs. Conduct Rules will need to be reviewed. SUBU Managers are disappointed with this situation. Action - FT Officers to decide how the American FootballClub can repay the coach company, and give back to the community, in order to compensate.
  • PGR Officer said students are not aware that with Sub-TV in Dylan’s, students can download songs to play on the LCD screens. Action - General Manager and Commercial Manager to investigate further.
  • PGR Officer also raised fact that there is a large speaker very close to central seating area. The General Manager assured that this will be reviewed during a planned refurbishment.
