Minutes of the CCBR Advisory Board Meeting – March 3, 2011
- Introductions
Meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m.

- Updates of the three ongoing research projects
A.A Pilot Study of Neurofeedback, fMRI and Brain Plasticity: Implications for Counseling Treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (20 fMRI scans) -- Lori A. Russell-Chapin Ph.D., Professor at Bradley University, College of Education and Health Sciences; Wen-Ching Liu, Ph.D., OSF; Tom Kemmerly, UICOMP;Ferilyn Shi, MD, OSF
- Dr. Shi is getting ready to orderfMRIs.
B.Differential Patterns of Neurological Brain Activity with Responses to Employment Interview Questions (10 fMRI scans) -- Allen I. Huffcutt Ph.D., Department of Psychology, Bradley University; Wen-Ching Liu, Ph.D.; Lori A. Russell-Chapin, Ph.D.
- Currently on its way through the IRB.
- Dr. Huffcutt is looking for an MD to join the team.
C.Normal Control Study of Usefulness of new MRI techniques MRS and DTI in pre-surgical evaluation of temporal lobe epilepsy (10 MRI scans) -- Michael Xu, MD., Ph.D.,Department of Neurology;Ergene Erhan,MD,Department of Neurology; Michael Zagardo, MD,Department of Diagnostic Radiology;WenChing Liu, Ph.D, Department of Diagnostic Radiology;Nancy Machens, APN, Department of Neurology
- Currently on its way through the IRB.
- Dr. Xu wants to get a Bradley person to join as a co-investigator.
Dr. Liu explained that they chose these three projects in particular because there are time constraints for budget approval and these proposals were ready.
Dr. Russell-Chapin and Ms. Madrigal are working on scheduling procedures for projects.
- Discussion of Research Policy
- If a project goes through the CCBR, it does need to have a Bradley University collaborator.
- Where do residents fit in to projects? Residents are welcome to join the CCBR.
- The CCBR is looking to have 3 projects up for approval for the next year.
- Dr. Russell-Chapin is interested in CONTE Grant for Translational Developmental Neurosciences, which is funded by NIMH and awards $2.2 million per year for 5 years. The letter of intent is due April 1.
- UICOMPcan participate as a collaborator in CCBR projects.
- Dr. Elwood will contact Dr. Thurlborn from UIC to get involved with CCBR.
- Add INI to partnership on the policy.
- Ms. Madrigal proposed a scoring sheet for approving annual projects.She has a model from OSF that can be revised specifically for CCBR use.
- Review projects in June and September and make final selections for scanning in October.
- Bradley IRB agreed to accept decision of OSF IRB, so researchers can take paperwork from OSF to BU to demonstrate IRB approval.
- Should Dr. Finkenbine, Director of Psychiatric Residency at UICOMP, has been invited to be involved with CCBR and will be contacted again.
- Dr. Russell-Chapin and Dr. Liu will narrow down projects to submit for board approval.
- Put flow chart on CCBR website of who to contact to submit a project. The flow chart should be prepared by May 9.
- Future discussions need to include intellectual property rights.
- Set date for next meeting
- The next meeting will be Thursday June 9, at 5:30 p.m. in the POB 209 Conference Room.
- The agenda will include presentation of the flow chart for project submission, presentation of the scoring sheet for selecting CCBR projects, and proposed research projects that have been submitted.

- Ideas for publicizing the CCBR at OSF – be sure to share the CCBR link with Stephanie Madrigal.
