Minutes of Cloughbawn GAA Club AGM 5th December 2008

Attendance 52. Apologies from Garry Flood, Larry Murphy, Ken Kennedy, Jim Doyle, Paul Flood, Marie Asple, M.J. Furlong, Noel Kielthy Jnr, Fr Maguire.

Chairman welcomed everyone to AGM and asked Secretary Tom Furlong to read minutes of last years annual general meeting.

Proposed and seconded for adoption as a true and accurate account by Jay Murphy and James Condon.

Chairman then gave his address in which he welcomed the new curate Fr Maguire to the parish and paid tribute to Fr Redmond who had moved to Ferns recently. He said there was an empty seat here tonight which would normally be taken by Tom Walsh and he said the club wished him well and there was a big round of applause to endorse this.

He told the meeting of the renewed main sponsorship of a further 3 years of our club by the O’Connor family, this time ‘EBKS’ instead of ‘JPK’. This news was welcomed by everyone present and Edward O’Connor was thanked deeply.

The chairman said he would try to complete this phase of our development work soon. A walkway was planned, the car park and the roadside fence was next.

He spoke of the terrible tragedy that occurred in the village earlier this year and expressed the sympathy of the club towards the families affected.

He recounted the fortunes or otherwise of all teams during 2008 and praised the efforts of the under age section who were successful in U16 football also.

He wished the Scor na nÓg well in their efforts to achieve or surpass last years efforts which saw our novelty act come 2nd in All Ireland.

Having thanked all who participated in or contributed to Cloughbawn GAA club during 2008.

Then he called on Secretary Tom Furlong to give his report. The secretary said he wished the incoming committee well and that he was standing down now having served the maximum 5 years and also a prolonged spell as assistant secretary also.

His report was proposed and seconded by Ger Flood and Andy Murphy.

Treasurer’s report was given by Aidan Kielthy who explained that the basic cost of running a club had increased from €30K in 2003 to €72K in 2008. Kevin Foley said that the €1400 taken in from tokens in handball was nothing to be sneezed at. And he also said the he thought that we should consider other uses for the squash court which was not being used at all. Liz Doran asked if the gate money received could not be improved. Report proposed and seconded by Ed O’Connor and Mikie Ryan.

Coiste na nÓg report was delivered by Sec. Vera Murphy. She said the minor footballers were thrown out at semi-final stage because an attempt was made to change to a different day albeit by mutual agreement from Horeswood. A hearing has been requested. U16 football championship win, U14 no team fielded because of lack of numbers and refusal by county committee to regrade team to lower division. U10s won Caulfield League, U8s had a great day out and win over Oulart in Croke Park. She said Scor na nÓg was competing this Sunday in Solo Singing, Recitation and Novelty Act. Report proposed and seconded by Sean Flood/Ed O’Connor.

Camogie: Tish Codd gave a brief run down of Camogie affairs saying that the U12s won county title, U16s were finalists, Juniors got to Semi-Final, we had 4 on U16 county panel and 4 on county teams. Mentioned Leanne Murphy’s part in county and colleges victories as trainer/selector. Patricia Lawler on U14 co. panel. Club has a bag pack fundraiser soon at Supervalue. Report proposed and seconded by Mikie Ryan and Mgt. Murphy.

Irish Officer: Tom Furlong said a few words ‘as gaeilge’ which was proposed and sec by Sean Flood and Vera Murphy.

Kevin Foley said that no football team should be entered next year as they made no effort this year to turn up. Agreed to wait till later on in meeting to discuss this.

Fr Hayes was then invited to chair the election of officers and he said that the club was doing great work with youngsters enabling them to play sport etc..

Irish Officer: Tom Furlong not standing. He said Marie Foley being the person involved totally with the Scor should assume the Irish Officer position as this is the area she is already committed to … e.g. cultural development of the club.

Motions:

  1. Club proposed that a sponsorship control commitee be set up who would be in charge of all or any sponsorship deals.

This was passed unanimously after some discussion and clarification.

  1. Aidan Kielthy proposed that players membership be increased from €50 to €80. This was passed. Ger Flood/Kevin Foley Proposed and seconded.

Election of Managers:

There were no successful nominations except at u21 hurling where James Kehoe was re-elected. Proposed by Andy Murphy and seconded by Seamus Flood.

Junior Football: Discussion was invited at this stage on whether we enter a team or not, Denis Kennedy said he had been listening to this for years but we forget that we won a county championship a few years ago and that we should cater for both codes. James Hendrick said that the trend in Wexford in recent years is that we are heading towards a football county and that we should stay involved. It was agreed to do so on proposal by Seamus Flood seconded by D Kennedy.

Working Committee: Names were invited from the floor from members interested in joining the working committee. The following offered their names:Mark Codd, Mikie Ryan, James Kehoe, Seamus Flood, Ed O’Connor, John Fleming, Kevin Foley. Chairman said exec cttee would co-opt members.

Bernard Doran reminded all that Coiste na nÓg AGM takes place this night week 8pm.

Ed Kehoe had calendars on sale for charity – depicting past Wexford teams.

Liz Doran: Old Polo Shirts and T Shirts are now on sale at hugely reduced prices.

Chairman said county convention was on Wed 17th Dec in Ferrycarrig. 5 Names to go include John Jude Doyle, James Hendrick, P.J. Dempsey, Kevin Foley, Mikie Ryan. Denis Kennedy will go as Rep.
