6208 Calabash Banquet Hall – Present were Elaine and Edison Paynter, owner of the leased property also Donna Duncan the Director and Darryl Stewart the Security Director. They have come to let us know what they are planning to do with the building; they already have the necessary permits from the previous owner.

The banquet hall is a 45 seat restaurant with room for 250 to 300 seats in the banquet facility. The banquet area is approx. 5, 000 square feet and the whole floor is 13, 000 square feet. There is a bar area that seats 16. Two different drawings were presented to approximate the set up for the facility, neither was architecturally drawn.

The owners had presented their concept to the following community groups, Tustin Advisory, Men of Tustin, the Wynnefield Neighbors, LARC, and Lancaster Ave. Business Association.Overbrook Farms Club was notified late of the opening. There will be ten employees for chefs, cleaners, bartenders and wait staff along with Donna Duncan. Mr. Stewart indicated there will be 12 security employees.

Parking will be on the street at meters or in lots on the 6100 - 6200 blocks of Lancaster Ave. Contract for parking would be applied as needed for different functions. The types of functions they would like to host are weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, Community Christmas Parties, etc. They are not looking to have a Cabaret. The price point would be in the $20-25 range.

The owner has a ten year lease with the option to buy. Kevin Maurer will follow up with Councilman Jones about this establishment.

4508 City Avenue – This is an application for a beer distributor. Councilman Jones is requesting a continuance of their January 20, Zoning Board Hearing since the applicants have not had any meetings with community groups. Councilman Jones would like them to meet with the community and also Saint Joseph’s University.

Farmers Market:

  1. While President of OFC, Terry Henry spoke to SPEPTA about the possibility of moving the Farmer’s Market to the Train Station parking lot. The present location is troublesome as to the visibility and the signage. The station lot would allow for better access, visibility, signage, etc. SEPTA required a new variance for new signage on the R5 line to be more uniform with signs along all regional rail lines. Mary Tracy through SCRUB, has noticed the signage on the shelters and building are illegal according to the agreement for the restoration of the station and requested the signage be removed for the historical buildings. SEPTA if they can have our agreement with the new signage will allow the farmer’s market to be hosted in the station lot. The market could be more family friendly at the SEPTA lot, it would be easy to block off part of the lot off to traffic and have enough room for parking.
