CITY OF WAUTOMA

MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL

MONDAY, APRIL 10th, 2017

7:30 p.m.

Mayor Nixon called the meeting of the City of Wautoma Common Council to order at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 10th, 2017.

Present: Mayor Nixon, Patrick King, Steve Ryerson, Aaron Grimm and Ed Hernandez

Excused: Lee Wise and Trevor Diedrick

Prayer and Pledge took place.

Alderperson Ryerson moved for approval of the minutes from the Regular Common Council meeting held on March 13th, 2017, Finance and Personnel meeting held on March 6th, 2017, and Airport Committee meeting held on March 15th, 2017. The motion was seconded by Alderperson Hernandez and carried 4-0.

Mr. Bohler presented both the General Fund Budget Comparison and bank account report.

Alderperson Hernandez moved for approval of the agenda. The motion was seconded by Alderperson Grimm and carried 4-0.

Alderperson King motioned to approve Resolution #2017-01 honoring Lee Wise for this public service as an alderperson in the City of Wautoma. The motion was seconded by Alderperson Ryerson and carried 4-0.

Mr. Bohler presented his report. He successfully completed and finalized the April election and said about 130 people voted. Mr. Bohler had met with Cedar Corp regarding the Silver Lake Sanitary District contract and will be following up with them to identify any issues (if any) that need to be addressed. He also met with Gene Shumann about a potential plan to develop the Lake Ridge Subdivision. Mr. Bohler had prepared an action plan to fill the Mill Pond this summer. Per council recommendation, there was a weight limit sign placed on Mt. Morris to keep large semi-trucks from driving on the pavement. Mr. Bohler presented the Wounded Warrior Purple Heart signs that will be at several public parking spots throughout the City. Mr. Bohler also attended the annual Fire Department Smoker.

Police Chief Weiss presented his monthly report.

Mayor Nixon presented his report and stated that he was assisting in the Lake Ridge Subdivision discussions. He brought attention to issues at an old nursing home in town. Chief Paul Weiss stated that he and his staff were monitoring the facility for suspicious activity.

Alderperson King moved to approve the payment of monthly vouchers. The motion was seconded by Alderperson Ryerson and carried 4-0.

Mr. Bohler presented his Mill Pond Action Plan, which targeted late May or early June to fill the pond. He has been working with the Public Works department to finalize all minor improvements and is complying with the Department of Natural Resources “hatching period” for trout, which prevents any changes to the pond until May 15th.

Discussion took place on the potential 2017 street project on Bean Street. Todd Trader from MSA Engineers stated that he was working with the City Administrator to identify anyone living on that road to go over preliminary information.

Alderperson Ryerson motioned to reimburse Dick Jorgensen, the Airport Director, $3000 for the purchase of a riding lawnmower that would be primarily used for upkeep around the main office buildings and hauling aircraft. The mower would be owned by the City and could be used at will whenever it is needed elsewhere. The motion was seconded by Alderperson Grimm and carried 4-0.

Alderperson King motioned to approve the voluntary resignation of Sandy Kotinek from the Historical Board, which was seconded by Alderperson Hernandez and carried 4-0.

Alderperson Grimm motioned to approve the appointment of Deb Buchholz to the Historical Board, which was seconded by Alderperson King and carried 4-0.

Alderperson Ryerson motioned to adjourn, which was seconded by Alderperson Grimm and carried 4-0. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
