Minutes for the March 26, 2005 Meeting

The MPWV Meat Goat Producers Association met on Saturday, March 26, 2005 at 2:30PM with 37 members present. President Dick Dixon presided over the meeting.

A motion was made by Dale Johnson to accept the minutes with one correction. Howdie Dunmire was not the appointed chairperson of the jackpot show. Shirley Christner was the chairperson appointed. Willie Lantz seconded the motion. The motion carried.

Next to be discussed was the scheduled show for June 4, 2005. A motion was made by Pam Adams to enact a fee of $10.00 for any animal which was registered late. Brenda Maresh seconded the motion. The motion carried. Next a pen fee was discussed. It was decided that #3.00 should be charged per pen- $1.00 would be paid to the fair grounds or the group who cleaned the pens; $2.00 would be distributed to the MPWV Association. Instead of a $5.00 entry fee per goat, Pam Adams made a motion to charge $8.00 ($5.00 for the entry fee and $3.00 per pen.) Brenda Maresh seconded the motion. The motion carried.

Dick Dixon mentioned that Shirley Christner had received $1,000.00 from the USBGA for the show. She also received money from Nutrena. Andi Dixon will be in charge of collecting the entry fees, etc for the show; jackpot entry fees will go to Tina Dennis; Willie Lantz will take care of the funds for the sale. After the show and sale all orginal receipts and money will be turned over to Cecil Ferguson, our treasurer.

In the absence of Shirley Christner, Howdie Dunmire discussed the jackpot show. He mentioned that the winners will receive some very nice prizes.

At the sale this year a total of 6 animals can be sold per individual. One buck can be sold for every two does. There must be a hard copy of the registration papers for the animals. Dick also mentioned that participants should check their goats before attending the show for any defects which would disqualify the goats from the show.

Pam Adams made a motion to charge $50.00 for any bad or returned checks. Brenda Maresh seconded the motion. Papers will be held until the checks clear. Also tattoos, ear tags and health papers will be checked upon arrival of the animals.

Willie Lantz discussed the judging school which will be offered to interested candidates. We need at least 5-6 people to register for the school along with several individuals auditing the classes. May 1 is the deadline for enrolling in the judging school. The registration cost is $225.00 for the class and $75.00 to audit the class.

Pam Adams then discussed the food booth. She said they (Pam and Brenda) need at leastthree to four goats this year. She thought they may be able to save some money this year because they had paper products left over from last year. Hot dogs, along with goat sandwiches, chips and soda will be sold again this year. Also donuts, coffee, hot tea and hot chocolate will be sold. Dick also recommended that a chart should be hung at the food booth comparing the health benefits of goat meat to pork, beef, and chicken.

Hats will be sold at the show. The Association purchases the hats for $6.00 and sells them for $10.00. Pam Adams recommended that we also sell some of the hats with the USBGA insignia on them. During the sale the individual(s) who purchase the first animal will receive a free hat. Also the individual(s) who purchase the most animals, will also receive a free hat.

Pam Adams made a motion to check with the Highlands Festival concerning vendor space. The Association would charge $50.00 per vendor. Brenda Maresh seconded the motion. The motion carried.

The next motion was made by Pam Adams concerning sponsorship of the county fair awards. She made a motion to sponsor these awards for $25.00. Brenda Maresh seconded the motion. The motion carried.

Kris DeWitt mentioned that the number painted on the sale goats smeared last year. Howdie Dunmire said that he had as many as 100 dairy tags. He would donate them to the sale. Dale Johnson had extra light weight chains in which to display the tags. We will try this method of identification this year.

Barbara Ferguson will be in charge of the program booklets. Anyone interested in putting an ad in the booklet should contact Barbara.

Brenda Maresh made a motion to adjourn. Dale Johnson seconded the motion. Motion carried. The meeting ended at 4:10PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Barbara A. Ferguson
