· Minutes were approved from the 11/5/09 meeting.
· The group worked on an update for its Mission Statement. Sara will send the updated draft to everyone once she has completed it.
· Sara and Barbara provided some information on the CB21 Webinar, which instructed colleges about recoding of basic skills courses. This work, mandated by the State Chancellor’s Office, must be completed by March. English, Math, and ESL are the three disciplines involved. Many people on campus attended the webinar, which was offered at three different times.
· Updates on the BSI website were given. Theresa Clifford has been working on the website http://www.elcamino.edu/academics/basicskills/ . Regarding the website, Julie is collecting Questions and Answers with regards to Educational Development courses. One suggestion was to list the ECC Basic Skills courses on the website. We also talked about having a logo. We will also be putting up relevant photos (Sara currently has the DVD of the photos). The group feels that the website’s function is both to share and publicize information to support the BSI at ECC. The group is appreciative of Theresa Clifford’s work on the site.
· Updates on BSI activities: Barbara distributed an updated BSI activity list, which was compiled by the BSI coordinators.
· Art brought up the topic of mandatory orientations and whether this can be a policy at ECC. Griselda stated that we cannot make them mandatory due to matriculation issues. In addition, there are not enough counselors to do workshops presently and the orientations are one hour in duration. Then, the group had a discussion on the possibility of mandatory HD 8 courses and who would teach them. Art stated that he would talk to David Vakil, Senate President, as well as Kristi Daniel-DiGreggorio, HD instructor, regarding this issue. Art also talked about the placement scores related to Math 12 and the importance of providing a cut off score for this course. This would lead to a possible zero-credit course below Math 12. He will discuss this issue with Irene in order to obtain further data.
· Barbara will continue to pursue the recruitment of BSAG members from the LRC, EOP&S, and CTE.
· The members discussed the spring scheduling of BSAG meetings and it was decided that we would have our meetings on the second Thursday of every month. Thus, our first meeting of spring semester will be March 11, 2010, 1:00-2:00 p.m. in Adm 127.
· Barbara adjourned the meeting at 2:15 p.m.
