Background: The Minnesota International NGO Network ( was founded in 2005. In 2011 it achieved 501 (c ) 3 status. MINN is a forum for international practitioners and supporters to learn, network and exchange professional expertise. It is MINN’s vision to be the leader in providing a collaborative environment for Minnesota international NGOs to learn and exchange ideas. Our efforts result in innovative and effective solutions that enrich the lives of the global community. MINN is an affinity group and primarily a virtual organization, meaning it lacks a bricks and mortar location. The internship mentor, a professional in the international development field, is prepared to spend several hours on campus with the student intern, each week, providing guidance on tasks.

Requirements: A commitment to intern for a full semester at MINN, and the ability to commit to a minimum of 10-20 hours of service per week. The intern would be asked to attend weekly meetings usually on or not far from campus. Outside of check-in meetings, the intern’s time commitment is mostly flexible and/or virtual, making this an ideal internship for a student.

Internship description/Duties:For this internship, we are looking for a professional and emotionally mature intern to wear two hats. S/he would be assisting the Membership Manager in encouraging MINN membership sales and renewal opportunities, and general MINN membership maintenance. S/he would additionally assist the Membership Manager in completing efforts begun the previous year to gather information on international organizations in Minnesota in order to prepare the MINN 2015-16 Global Report.

This internship is a great opportunity for interns that are interested in gaining exposure to the international humanitarian, aid, relief and development organizations headquartered in Minnesota. This is also a terrific internship for an individual who is cyber savvy, has the ability to work in a variety of electronic platforms,interested in cultivating an improved community for international practitioners in Minnesota, and has, ideally, previous experience working in a database environment.

Intern provides assistance to all MINN Membership and Global Report activities, including (but not limited to):

  • Contact members about their memberships
  • Data entry/populating into CRM (Salesforce)
  • Running reports in a CRM (Salesforce)
  • Investigate database solutions and managing data
  • Identify and attend priority member-only events that would provide added value to MINN Members

Required experience and skills:

  • Interest in gaining exposure to an international NGO
  • Interest in international humanitarian, aid, relief and/or development and/or desire to work with communities abroad
  • Experience in Microsoft Excel, Word, Google Docs and Gmail and willingness to learn other platforms
  • Strong writing/communication and proof reading skills
  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to multi-task
  • Attention to detail and previous office experience
  • Ability to work as a member of a team, as well as independently when tasks are assigned
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to self-monitor work and keep on task

Preferred but not required

  • Previous experience working in Salesforce

This is an unpaid internship. Preference will be given to intern applicants who pursue grants or school programs offering financial compensation or academic credit.
