The two day session will be delivered by the ministry curriculum project lead. Participants will be provided with materials at the training sessions.
The training session will focus on:
§ an overview of the changes in the revised curriculum policy documents;
§ considerations for program planning in Science;
§ embedded assessment and evaluation practices focusing on assessment for and of learning;
§ subject specific content activities.
Each district school board is invited to send up to eleven (11) participants. It is suggested that the team of eleven include one board representative (e.g., science consultant/coordinator), one administrator, one board leader for guidance and career education, one board leader for special education and seven classroom teachers (one from each of Grades 9-10, biology, chemistry, earth and space science, environmental science, physics, and general science) based on the needs and implementation plans of the board.
Designated board contact people are asked, whenever possible, to make arrangements for their implementation team to participate in the training session. In order to be able to make more effective use of the face to face time in the training session, it is necessary that all of the members of the school board team who did not participate in the Adobe Connect training sessions for Science 9-12, view the online recording of this session.
The October 2008 Adobe Connect session (Part 1) can be viewed at
http://curriculum.na3.acrobat.com/p37426455
The December 2008 Adobe Connect session (Part 2) can be view at
http://curriculum.na3.acrobat.com/p87112384/
These two sessions represent Parts 1 and 2 of the three part training series. It is important for all participants in the face to face session to be familiar with the content of Parts 1 and 2 before arriving at the face to face session as these materials will not be revisited.
Note: The training sessions for Science will be as paperless as possible. It is recommended that members of each board team bring laptop computers to the training session. It would also be helpful if members bring extension cords with them.
Board teams are encouraged to bring copies of the revised Grades 9 and 10 and Grades 11 and 12 curriculum documents, if they have arrived in their schools. EDU will provide limited copies of the revised curriculum policy documents for the training session.
