Note: Section 22 of Napro Act stipulates that any persion who in connection with this application gives any information, or submits any document which is false or misleading in a material particular shall commit an offence and shall on conviction be liable to a fine not exceeding MUR 25,000 and to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years.

Venison dealer's Licensing notes and conditions

  1. The Napro Act requires venison dealers and retailers to be licensed by NAPRO.
  1. It is an offence for anyone who is not a licensed venison dealer or retailer to kill, sell, offer or expose for sale or have in his possession, transport or cause to be transported for the purpose of sale at premises any venison unless he does so for the purpose of selling to a licensed venison dealer or he has purchsed from a licensed venison dealer.
  1. It is an offence to deal in venison without a valid licence and to be in possession of venison which has been killed or is thought to have been killed illegally.
  1. Following the application for a licence or renewal of licence and after amaking reasonable enquiries the NAPRO may refuse to grant or renew a lience. The applicant may then appeal to the Minister in the event of an application for licence or renewal of a licence being referred.
  1. Venison dealers are required to to keep records of certain activities on specified form, copies of these form will be made available when licence is issued. The record should be kept in a safe place and be made available for inspection. It is an offence to make false entries or to obstruct an officer in the exercise of his powers under the Act.
  1. All transactions in venison dealings must be recorded using format as detailed in the form and all details must be given for each carcass or part of carcass.Records of all venison delivered to a dealer's premises or collected by a dealer must be recorded in prescribed manner.
  1. All records, invoices, receipts of consignment, other documents should be kept for a period of one year, coming with the date of last entry in any record book.
  1. Any authorised person may inspect any record or document relevent to venison dealing and may inspect any venison or premises or in vehicles under venison dealer's control. Copy of any document may be taken by an authorised officer. An authorised person shall show his identity card when requested.
  1. A venison dealer may at anytime surrender his licence to NAPRO within five days of the coming into effect of a decision of a court disqualifyning him from holding a licence.
  1. A venison dealer's licence shall be returned to NAPRO within five days if the holder of licence ceases to deal in venison.
  1. A licence will be valid for one hunting season, one close season or one year only.
