Contest Rules and Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in the Minidoka County Fair and Rodeo Ambassador and Teen Queen contest. Our goal is to promote a positive experience through sportsmanship, friendship, leadership and horsemanship with all contestants and their families. Queening can be such an empowering experience that can ensure quality benefits and lifelong friendships that will follow one throughout their entire life.

By participating in the MCFR contest all participants agree to abide by the following rules and guidelines of this contest. Please initial each indicating that you have read and understand it.

1.  For each category there will be one title awarded that will be expected to represent at all future specified events those will be as follows: Ambassador (17-23) and Teen Queen (12-16) Entry fees will be a non-refundable fee of $35.00. *In the past, 1st attendants have been recognized and given the opportunity to represent, however only crowned royalty will represent following coronation. All ages are determined by January 1st of the contest year.______

2.  Each Teen Queen contestant will be required to participate in Speech and Modeling, Personal Interviews and Horsemanship. Each contestant will be required to share knowledge of rodeo, current events, personality and horsemanship. There will NOT be a test for this contest; however it is at the judge’s discretion if they would like to quiz a contestant on knowledge in any area of their choosing.______

3.  Ambassadors will be selected and appointed by the Fair board committee members and will reign for a minimum of one year, however Ambassadors may be invited to continue to represent for a longer term if determined appropriate by such committee, all decisions made by the fair board committee regarding invitation and/or appointment are deemed final.______

4.  Ambassadors will be expected to perform various duties and represent the MCFR at various events and activities and is encouraged to participate in the Miss Rodeo Idaho contest and or Miss Rodeo USA if so desired.______

5.  Each contestant agrees to maintain safe and appropriate tack for all MCFR events.______

6.  Each contestant will be required to dress as required by MCFR attire guidelines. All contestants will be required to make public appearances as required by the coordinators and in doing so each contestant will be appropriately dressed in full western attire at all times and appearances. Contestants participating in the events of the fair will be excused from full dress only to participate in specific events (fat stock shows, food booth, feeding/caring for animals, etc.).______

7.  Each contestant and members of her family, friends and social network will agree to maintain themselves in a positive and respectful manner throughout the duration of the contest (both before and after coronation). Contestants and members above specified agree that they will refrain from expressing their opinion in a public and hurtful manner towards any other contestant, family member, and coordinator or MCFR board member. ______

8.  There will be a $75.00 fee for all complaints/appeals filed with the MCFR board; all complaints shall be submitted to the coordinator or MCFR board member in writing with payment within 3 hours of such incident. Should the board deem such complaint as valid, such fee shall be reimbursed. If the complaint is deemed invalid such fee will be forfeited and absorbed into the MCFR Royalty fund.______

9.  In the event that entry fees are not paid at the time of the contest, no contestant will be allowed to compete until all fees and/or donations are submitted.______

10.  All contestants and royalty will be expected to participate when and where assigned unless prior arrangements have been made with the coordinators. This includes any request of the MCFR Fair board.______

11.  Any contestant having been pregnant, is pregnant or who is living with a significant other and/or domestic partner will not be allowed to participate in the MCFR contest.______

12.  Each contestant shall submit a 5X7 portrait of themselves in western attire that will be used in the program, newspaper and other areas as needed. (These photos may be judged however such judgment will be at the discretion of the MCFR coordinators and/or in the event of a tie breaker).______

13.  No contestant shall be permitted to ride a stallion.

14.  No contestant can hold any other title unless such title will be relinquished within 1 months’ time of MCFR coronation. Exception would be that of an Idaho State Title. The only other exception to this rule would be that of a High School Rodeo District Queen title, However the MCFR title shall supersede all High School Rodeo titles with the exception of Miss High School Rodeo Idaho at which time MCFR title would be forfeited and would go to the 1st runner up.______

15.  In the event that any title holder can no longer represent MCFR as required, such title and all gifts shall be relinquished to the 1st runner up or next available candidate.______

16.  The MCFR board reserves the right to refuse any candidate from competing in the MCFR Royalty contest for any reason.______

17.  Each contestant and/or Royalty will maintain themselves in a manner that promotes oneself as a positive role model for the MCFR and the great sport of rodeo. All contestants shall remember that they are held to a higher standard and are in the eye of the public at all times and must respect one self and others at all times. This includes all functions of MCFR, social functions, social networks, other fairs and rodeo’s, etc.______

18.  The presence of silent judges will be at the discretion of the MCFR coordinators.______

19.  Ambassador and Teen Queen Contestants may be requested to carry a flag at the MCFR rodeo’s (Junior and Open).______

20.  Teen Queen Contestants having previously held the title of MCFR Teen Queen may not hold the same title more than once. Ambassadors can be invited to continue to represent as appointed by the fair board. ______

21.  All reigning royalty will be responsible for collecting both cash and prize donations. Minimum cash donations will be as follows:

·  Ambassador: ($300.00 minimum) plus prize donations.

·  Teen Queen: ($200.00 minimum) plus prize donations.

22.  If crowned as Ambassador or Teen Queen, I understand that I will receive traveling items (ie. Crown (Ambassador), Serape (Ambassador, Teen Queen ), and chaps (Ambassador) that will be required to be given to the new royalty the following year. If I fail to do so or items are damaged, I understand that I may be responsible for the cost of replacement of such damaged or unreturned items.______

23.  Minidoka County Ambassador and Teen Queen and the parents/guardians thereof, agree to hold Minidoka County and the Minidoka County Fair board and anyone associated with such board/contest harmless and not liable for any accident, injury, or personal damage that may occur to her during her competition and/or reign.______

24.  All judges/board decisions are final at the time of the coronation and crowned winners will remain as such.______

25.  Upon being crowned MCFR Ambassador/Teen Queen, I understand that I will be required to sign a code of contact agreement immediately following coronation.______

MCFR CONTEST RELEASE FORM

In consideration of my application being accepted as a contestant for the title of MCFR Ambassador or MCFR Teen Queen, I am permitted to engage in the Minidoka County Fair and Rodeo Royalty contest, I hereby for myself, my executers, assistants, family, administrators, and friends agree to abide by all rules and regulations pertaining to the MCFR Royalty contest and I assume all liability and responsibility for any and all loss, accident, or injury whether to person or property.

I enter this contest at my own risk and understand that I am subject to the contest rules, both written and verbal.

I also agree to hold harmless the Minidoka County Fair board, all committee members, coordinators, and any others involved in such event for the entire term of the contest and/or the duration of my reign.

I agree that this release of liability will remain in force until the final night of my term as MCFR Royalty which will be the final night of all MCFR functions of the following year. Also, I hereby release the right and claim of any photographs that may be taken by the Rodeo committee or others designated to take such photos for use of promotion and publicity.

I agree that I have read, initialed and understand all above rules and expectations of the MCFR royalty contest. I agree that I must abide by such rules and regulations and agree that failure to comply with such rules can result in disqualification of current and future participation in such contest.

MCFR Horsemanship Contest

1.  Wrangler® pants product; form-fitting blouse or shirt with long sleeves, any color, no sequins or “bling”. No vests or jackets. Hat belts and boots required. NO FAT BABIES!

2.  Ambassadors and Teen Queen Contestants will be required to participate in one horsemanship pattern. Ambassadors and Teen Queen Contestants may be required to participate in an additional draw horse pattern at the judge’s discretion. All horses used for competition must compete in a bridle. (No snaffle bits, o rings or D rings) STALLIONS ARE NOT ALLOWED.

3.  All contestants will be required to groom saddle and bridle their own horses. No parents, trainers or any other individuals will be allowed to assist, give pointers, warm up any horses, etc. once released to prepare for horsemanship. Once the contestant is mounted no parents will be allowed to interact with contestants. Should the need arise, a parent can ask the coordinator to handle upcoming concerns or escort them to their child. NO TRAINERS, parents or others are allowed to warm up contestant horses at any time.

4.  No contestant is allowed to leave the warm-up /bullpen area during the contest. No contestant is allowed to ride the race track during the contest.

5.  Contestants will be required to participate in a pattern as assigned by the MCFR coordinators.

6.  In the event that there is an overall tie in the final score, such ties will be broken by the using highest horsemanship score.

7.  Judges can perform horsemanship interviews upon completion of patterns at their discretion.

8.  Contestant’s hair must be pulled back and secured from significant bounce.

9.  Tack inspections will be at the discretion of the judges.

10.  Ambassadors and Teen Queens will be required to mount and dismount at the beginning and end of their patterns. In the event that contestants ride a draw horse, contestants will only mount and dismount on personal horse.

MCFR Speech and Modeling Contest

1.  Queens shall dress in a western dress of choice. Teen Queens and Princesses shall dress in Western attire (Wrangler®, shirt, etc.) of their choice. Belt, hat and boots.

2.  Speech topics will be as assigned by coordinators; all speeches will be as follows:

Teen Queen (2-3 mins)

3.  Each contestant will be required to answer questions in the categories of rodeo knowledge, horsemanship, current events and personality as a portion of their speech score.

4.  Ambassadors will not compete in the Speech and Modeling contest, however will participate in an extensive interview process with the fair board. Ambassadors will be expected to present themselves for an introduction during the Teen Queen Speech and Modeling portion of the contest.

5.  Following speech and modeling each Teen Queen contestant will participate in personal interviews with judges. Same attire as speech and modeling will be required.

6.  Contestants will be judged on content and creativity, voice projection, enunciation and grammar, use of microphone, eye contact, self-confidence and stage appeal.

7.  In the event of a tie photos may be used to break the tie.

8.  NO NOTECARDS OR PROPS WILL BE ALLOWED.
