THESIS PROPOSAL
Provide an outline of your thesis project using only 2 pages of single spaced text written in 12 point Times Roman or Arial on 8 ½ x 11 paper with 1” margins. Include in your description, work undertaken and progress made, work to be undertaken, and statements concerning the novelty or value of the thesis project.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION – INSTRUCTIONS
Applicants for this scholarship must be undertaking a M.Sc. or Ph.D. thesis program in one of the following fields: mineralogy, crystallography, geochemistry, mineral deposits or petrology.
You are eligible to compete for this award if you are: (1) A student entering the second year of a M.Sc. Program or entering the second or third year of a Ph.D. program at a Canadian University; (2) A Canadian citizen enrolled in the above or equivalent programs at any university.
- Please complete the personal information required on the first page. In completing this form give the name and contact address of your thesis supervisor and that of a person who is familiar with your work and who is prepared to act as a second referee.
- Request your supervisor and second referee each to forward, to the address given below, a letter in support of your application plus a written appraisal of the progress made with your thesis project including a statement as to the expected completion date. The letter should address the criteria used to assess the candidates and that are listed below.
- All applications must be accompanied by an official academic transcript (undergraduate and graduate)
- The review process for the scholarships will be different at the M.Sc. and Ph.D. level. For M.Sc. students, the focus will be on academic record (60%), research potential (30%) and communication, interpersonal and leadership abilities (10%). For Ph.D. students the weighting is academic record (35%), research abilityand potential (60%) and communication, interpersonal and leadership abilities (15%)

Only one copy of the application form and thesis project description is necessary if sent by email in electronic format, but one copy of the official academic transcripts must be sent in the mail.
Deadline for receipt of complete applications including references is May 1, 2018; we will be accepting official academic transcripts until May 14. Incomplete applications or those not following the prescribed format will not be considered in the awards competition.
The Mineralogical Association of Canada reserves the right not to award a scholarship in any given year.
