Minecraft Marketplace
Fact Sheet
April 2017
What It Is:
The Minecraft Marketplace is a program that enables players to safely and easily access curated content from community creators for the first time. Marketplace transactions take place right within the app, offering additional security and ease for those who seek community-created content without risk of installing viruses or malware. We know that Minecraft players often play Minecraft on multiple devices, so we are working toward making content players buy available on multiple devices as well, enabled by a free Xbox Live account. We are working with each of our platform partners to enable this for our players and will have more to share with the Minecraft Marketplace’s launch later this spring.
Marketplace provides a platform for content creators with registered business identities to share and sell in-game content for Minecraft in exchange for Minecraft Coins, which are purchased using real-world currency. This gives our partners a platform to share their creations and earn a living from their work without requiring a full game update each time new content is added, as well as added flexibility for creators to set prices as they choose using a standard currency.
The Details
The Minecraft Marketplace will be available on “Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition” and “Minecraft: Pocket Edition” in Spring 2017 through the 1.1 Discovery Update. An Xbox Live Silver or Gold account is required for purchases, given the library management system across devices.
Information on Minecraft Coins:
- Transactions in the Marketplace use Minecraft Coins, which can only be acquired through in-app real money purchases on your device.
- Players can buy things in the Marketplace using their Xbox Live account/payment options. Once they purchase coins or use them to get content, both the coins and the content are immediately available to them on any Pocket Edition or Windows 10 device where they play Minecraft.
- Minecraft Coins are available in three coin tiers: $1.99 for 300 coins, $4.99 for 840 coins and $9.99 for 1,720 coins.
- We think it’s important that creators take the biggest share of profit when their content is sold. When a piece of content is purchased, the App Store platforms will take a 30% cut, and then we seek to give the majority of the remainder to the creator.
Information for Creators:
Minecraft Content Creators who are registered businesses can apply for the program and submit to the Marketplace via
