Musical Inclusion Evaluation and Networking

Gathering one, 19/4/13 assessment

“What have I learned? What am I going to do about that?”

Session rubric

To allow a moment of reflection at the end of the day, and to give the organising team some assessment of their own performance, we used a version of Kirkpatrick’s hierarchy. This asks four structured questions about a training session. Enjoyment and learning are the lower two tiers – and for many training days, attenders don’t get further than those. What’s important, of course, is whether the training has been useful and leads to change. – the two higher levels.

Attenders were asked to form listening pairs, with one party talking their way through their responses to the four questions (making their best estimates of their answers to the third and fourth questions), and then marking up a questionnaire sheet accordingly. Then they swapped roles in their pairs and repeated. As well as scoring, attenders were invited to address the question "what am I going to do to make the most of this learning?” for each level; some chose to amplify their scores here, especially for the higher levels. Finally, we asked for general comments.

Attenders were asked to fill in copy sheets for the team for analysis (results below). Attenders will be emailed a reminder in three months’ time to reflect on whether they' have in fact been able to use the learning from the day, and whether that's improved their work.

1) Scores

Lots / Some / A little / Not at all / Average
Did I enjoy the gathering / 21.5 / 11.5 / 0 / 0 / 3.7 = 92%
Did I learn what I needed to and did I get some new ideas / 11 / 19 / 3 / 0 / 3.2 = 80%
Will I use the information and ideas / 11 / 20 / 1 / 3.3 = 83%
Do I think the ideas and information will improve my effectiveness and results / 4.5 / 22.5 / 2 / 3.1 = 78%
