Dear Rotary District Grants Committee:

As Director of Parks and Recreation for the Town of Abingdon, I am providing this letter of participation for the Rotary Collaborative Project Grant (CPG) submission by the Abingdon Rotary and the Washington County Rotary Clubs (Rotary Clubs). The collaborative grant application is for $6,000, with match by the Rotary Clubs, to purchase, ship and install ADA compliant playground equipment at the Coomes Recreation Center in Abingdon, Virginia.

In 1995, the Abingdon Rotary Club was instrumental in the purchase and installation of wooden playground equipment for the children of our community. The Rotary Clubs of Abingdon and Washington County have now graciously offered to help make the dream of a fully compliant ADA playground a reality for the many children in our region with special needs. This special equipment will be an addition to the existing wooden playground and will allow all children to play and interact together in an inclusive play setting.

The Rotary clubs have targeted two expensive, but essential pieces of play equipment for the site, an Oval Swing and a Rock-N-Wave at the discounted prices of $3,247 and $7,104, respectively. The Rotary Clubs have agreed to work with our staff in the installation of the equipment, installation of the Rotary plaque and the finalization of appropriate landscaping after installation of the playground equipment.

I have provided the Rotary clubs detailed pricing information regarding the ADA playground equipment and have worked with the vendor, Bliss Products and Services, Inc. to obtain the municipality discount for the purchase. I will be happy to share any financial or other information associated with the project that you may need. The installation of the playground equipment will hopefully take place this fall, but will without doubt be completed before May 1, 2016. Please feel free to contact me at 276-623-5279 if I can be of assistance in this grant application process in any way.

It is always a joy to work with Rotary on projects of this nature. The local Rotary Clubs have been willing to take the lead on important projects for Abingdon Parks and Recreation and we look forward to working with them again this year on the addition to the existing wooden playground to benefit those with special needs.

Very truly yours,

Kevin W. Worley
