Duties/responsibilities:

Typing, filing, word processing, data entry, typesetting, coding, posting, bookkeeping

Researching, teaching, editing, writing, proofreading

Scheduling, coordinating, organizing, updating

Preparing packets, mailings, or equipment

Responding to inquiries - phone, mail, reception, tours, counter work

Stocking, receiving, shelving, transporting, delivering, gardening, grounds keeping

Special skills needed:

Knowledge of computer programs (specify program)

10-key calculation by touch

Typing or word processing (specify WPM required)

Photography or audio/video recording

Job Description & other Desirable Qualities:

2 positions available for Teaching Assistants for IPMG 8532/IEPG 9532: Geographical Information Systems.

Required experience and skills: The successful candidate needs to have successfully completed semester-long GIS class(es) and have familiarity with GIS theory and applications and GIS software tools including ArcGIS 10 and Google Earth. S/he will be student-oriented and willing to troubleshoot problems as they arise.

Required activities include class and lab time assisting students with assignments and group projects.

Class: Attend class (sessions are T/Th 8 to 10 AM or T/Th 10 AM to Noon). Actively assist students in class exercises.

Lab: Set up and maintain regular lab hours for students outside of class time. Expected total commitment for each of 2 positions is: 4 hours in class; additional 6 hours in lab. Potential need for occassional email support for students outside of classroom & lab hours.

Projects: during the latter part of the semester, students will be working on group projects. These require a good deal of independent research and exploration. The TA will support students by guiding them in their research and troubleshooting.The TA is expected to watch all project presentations and participate in evaluation along with the students & professor.
