Secretary/Scheduler

  • Motion made by Chuck Keefe — to nominate Michelle Rothmeyer as scheduler/secretary; seconded by Ingrid Clark Zavadoski; unanimous approval

AGM (annual general managers meeting)

  • Chris Yustus attended state meeting and learned the following:
  • AGM looking for ideas to assist local clubs:
  • Marketing meeting —March 14; each club required to send a representative and can bring more: WISCO hotels (assists clubs in finding hotel room blocks/discounts); Active Network; Stefans; goal suppliers; Madison Concourse Hotel (block of rooms set aside —mention WYSA when reserve room, call by Feb 13 for discounts ($139 double, 149 triple, 159 quad); parking is $5 per day: present concussion/testing information; creating a club budget and project revenue/expenses —Ken Ward; branding your club — Rich Jensen, South Dakota soccer; exhibits; Challenger Sports

Scheduling for the season

  • Clubs can email spring teams to CWSL in advance of spring planning meetings — deadline is March 14; include team’s age level and what level they should play at (example: U9 team should play at U10 or U10 team should play at rookie level)
  • Coaches need to have more input concerning what age level their team should play at
  • Spring season scheduling meeting to be held March 21

Rule updates

  • Disbanding teams —in the past, fall teams from mixed clubs combined into one could be disbanded so they could return to home club in spring
  • Requests for disbanding teams to move them to another age group — when needed, it can be done
  • Can only move players three times in a season per team
  • Cannot disband a state level team
  • For fall team formation, inform Chris of the intentions —for example, this team is formed for the fall but it will need to be disbanded in the spring
  • Chris and Chuck will work together on disbanding/team formation rules
  • Reports of inappropriate recruiting behavior: cannot recruit players who are already registered with a club; need to make Chris aware of the incident and Chris will communicate with the state concerning the incident
  • Chris is available to assist clubs with helping make the push for spring registration-drives in the fall
  • Game cancellations — should not happen the day of the game and only happen due to weather or in dire situations; recommends coaches establish who can/cannot play at the beginning of the season so that rescheduling can be done in advance; should play even if short players unless the team does not “legally” have enough (according to the rules)
  • Ref assignors make the call concerning weather/game play
  • Clubs need to make parents aware concerning who makes the weather calls and that there are fines for cancelling league games
  • Email Chris with any other concerns re: rules

Awards for 2014 Season

  • Six or seven teams won and did not get a response from the majority of them concerning t-shirt sizes
  • Chris and Karen considering ideas for awards but Rhinelander noted that the kids do like the t-shirts
  • Board recommends that clubs send Chris/Karen a uniform contact person

Old Business

  • Discussion concerning difficulty of referee assignors and trainers
  • Chris will contact HYSA re: their status in the league
  • Rhinelander —low in numbers for U16-U18 and looking to establish a northwoods co-op teams that combines players from all the communities and be a tournament-only team; rule: can only be tournament-only team if U18 – but Chris notes that the Board can discuss this rule at the March meeting to see if it should be re-worked based on team numbers
  • Coaching clinic (E certification) —Chris spoke with Craig Carlson — he (and Jim) have offered to run a coaching symposium and work with coaches on the particular skills they need; Chris suggests targeting parent coaches of younger teams, but open to all and centrally located
  • NSCAA could send rep for half-day and Jim/Craig for the other half-day
  • Will be held in Wausau area
  • CWSL will pay for the facility-use fees
  • Can open it up to high school level coaches as well
  • East central teams are not pleased with how far they have to travel; willing to have our CWSL teams play in their fall league (Fox Valley area)
  • In Madison they have built a co-op of clubs (run by the league) and the higher-level players are put on a team (Craig Carlson suggested this) — this is something CWSL can consider whether they would play in a league and or tournaments only; could have all the clubs share information about the co-op teams during the spring season and form the teams for the fall (would entail tryouts)

New Business

  • New soccer complex in Wausau, on track to be available this spring

Motion to adjourn: Ingrid Clark Zavadoski; seconded by Todd Schmiedling
