Presidential Biography 20 Point Project
Due Date: Tuesday, May 10, 2016
Directions:
- Students will choose a President from Thomas Jeffersonup to Andrew Johnson and an event that happened during that presidency.
- Students will complete research using research guides. Research must include at least four different sources, one of which must be ABC-CLIO and one must be a book source. (Textbook cannot be used as a book source. Do not use Wikipedia or Ask.com)
- Students must complete at least 20 points worth of activities. Each point earned over 20 points will add 1 point to your grade up to a maximum of 105 points.
Activities – Choose at least 20 points
- Everyone must complete the MANDATORY Autobiography, News Article, and Works Cited page that follows MLA format.
(4 pts) News Article – MANDATORY
- Research a key event from your presidency and write an article about it.
- Proper format for a news article must be followed and include a headline, pictures (with captions), and specific details.
(4 pts) Autobiography – MANDATORY
- Write a detailed account about the life of your president written in first person. Cover the following topics:
- personal background
- early political experiences/military experiences
- the presidency
- after presidency
- Autobiography must be one-two typed pages double spaced in Times New Roman 12 point font
(2 pts) Works Cited - MANDATORY
- You must follow proper MLA format.
- Include at least four sources
- One source must be a book (textbook cannot be used as a source)
- One source must be ABC-CLIO (username and password: gwstudent)
- Do not use Wikipedia or Ask.com
(2 pts) Word Search Puzzle
- You must have at least 15 words that relate to your president and key event(s).
- Make sure you have an answer key
(2 pts) Crossword Puzzle
- Must have at least 10 questions that relate to your president and key event(s).
- Make sure you have an answer key.
You may either do a word search or crossword puzzle not both.
(2 pts) Quote
• Pick a quote that your president said during his Presidency.
• Type a two-paragraph response explaining the quote.
- You must include when, where, and why the quote was stated.
- Explain what it meant and your reaction to the quote.

- It must include at least the following data to create a profile of your president:

(2pts) Collage
- You must have at least 15 pictures with captions.
- Pictures must relate to your president and key event(s).
(2 pts) Map
- You can download a blank map of the U.S. from when your president was in office
or you may make a map that depicts a key event from your presidency
- Label important cities, geographic features, and landmarks.
- Include a map key
(3 pts) Political Cartoon
- Create a political cartoon depicting a key event from your presidency.
- Be sure that the cartoon clearly illustrates a specific opinion.
(3 pts) Campaign Poster
- Create a campaign poster for your president.
- The poster must include a slogan, pictures, and 3-4 bullet points that explain major issues from that election.
(3 pts) Song Parody
• Create a song parody about your president and major event.
• The song should be to a popular tune and have at least 10 lines
• You must record your song parody and have a typed copy.
(3 pts) Timeline
- Timeline of your presidency must include at least 8 important/major events.
- Include pictures and descriptions of each event.
- You must follow the proper format for a timeline (equal intervals)
(3 pts) Letter to the Editor
- Type an opinion-based letter to the editor of a newspaper about your president or a key event during his presidency.
You will get 2 extra points for organizing your project into a:
(2 pts) Movie/Photo Story
--Create a Movie or Photo Story about your president.
--Include all of the MANDATORY components:Autobiography (4 pts), News Article on the key event (4 pts), andWorks Cited(2 pts).
--Include additional interesting details to support your presentation.
--You must submit a typed copy of your script for the Movie or Photo Story.
--Submit either electronically in a computer folder or printed out in areport folder.
--Add other components to get up to 20 points either electronically or printed out.
(2 pts) Magazine
--Create either a printed magazine or an electronic magazine about your president.
--Include a cover with a title, picture(s), headline, and sub-headlines.
--Include all of the MANDATORY components: Autobiography (4 pts), News Article on the key event (4 pts), and Works Cited (2 pts).
--Create two-three advertisements from that period.
--Add other components to your magazine to get up to 20 points.
