Theme of this Regional Meeting – “Seeing Light in the Darkness”:

The theme for the meeting is inspired by the total solar eclipse that will cross the U.S. in August. Presentations or demonstrations involving any sort of teaching in the planetarium (formal or informal, whether related to the 2017 solar eclipse or not) are invited. The IUP planetarium has a 30-foot dome, 74 seats, and a venerable Spitz A3P projector that will be celebrating its 50th year in May.

Travel Information

ABOUT US:

Indiana University of Pennsylvania, about an hour's drive east-northeast of Pittsburgh, is a campus of the PA State System of Higher Education. It enrolls 12,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The planetarium is operated by the Geosciences Department, which has undergraduate programs in Geology and Earth and Space Science Education.

AIR TRAVEL:

Pittsburgh airport is 75 miles (about 90 minutes) drive from campus. A small number of flights serve Latrobe airport 35 miles south of campus.

TRAIN TRAVEL:

The nearestAmtrakstation is in Johnstown, 25 miles southeast of Indiana.
