Story : Oliver Twist

Answer the following questions :

1-"The ring has the word "Agnes" inside it." Comment.

The old woman said these words to Monks in an empty house when he opened the gold locket which she had given to him. Agnes was the name of Oliver’s mother.

2-What did Monks take from Sally's friend? What did he do ?
He took a gold locket with 2 pieces of hair and a plain gold wedding ring inside. Monks threw it into the river.

3-What did Oliver see at the window when he was half asleep? What did he do?

He saw Fagin and the man, who met him outside the inn, standing at the window and they were pointing at him. Oliver jumped from the window into the garden and called for help. The servants searched for the two men but without success.

4-"Curse you! What are you doing here?" Comment

A tall man in a black coat said these words to Oliver when Oliver fell against him outside the inn on his way back home.

Fagin said these words to Sikes when he visited him after he had known that Oliver stayed with two ladies at a hotel near Hyde Park in London. He wanted to take Oliver back.

Comprehension

1- I used to travel by air a great deal when I was a boy. My parents used to live in South America and I used to fly there from Europe during the holidays. An air hair hostess would take charge of me and I never had an unpleasant experience. I am used to traveling by air and only on one occasion have I ever felt frightened. After taking off, we were flying low over the city and slowly gaining height, when the plane suddenly turned and flew back to the air port. While we were waiting to land, an air hostess told us to keep calm and to get off as quietly as soon as it had toughed down . Every body on board was worried and we were curious to find out what had happened. Later we learnt that there was a very important person on board . The police were told that a bomb had been planted on the plane. After we had landed, the plane was searched thoroughly. Fortunately, nothing was found and five hours later we were able to take off again.

A sailor once went ashore on the coast of South America. He had with him a number of caps for sale. On his way to a town at some distance from the coast he had to pass through a forest, in which groups of monkeys were seen climbing among the trees. At noon, the seller had to take shelter from the burning rays of the sun. He lay down to rest under the shade of a large tree. He was surprised, that the caps were all gone. Unusual cries came among the branches above him drew his attention. Looking up, he saw the tree alive with groups of monkeys, and on the head of each monkey was a red cap! The monkeys stole his caps while he was sleeping. He cried , but the monkeys paid no attention to the shouts. Finding every attempt to get his caps fruitless, he pulled off the one he put on his head, and throw it on the ground, crying out ," Here, you little thieves , if you will the rest ,you may take this one too."

No sooner had he done this than, to his surprise , the monkeys at once did the same. Each took off his cap from its and threw it on the ground . The sailor regained all his caps , and marched off in triumph.
