IV. Graduate student award winner – Vinta A. Tiarani – Best graduate student research presentation award

V. Update from the board – Sheri Brown – Board Member

Encourage to attend ASTE Reno she shared registration info and hotel info; New journal needs new editors Innovations in Science Teaching – will be a venue for teaching articles; Asked if anyone had questions and reminded everyone to visit with the board at the conference. We cannot use the national association tax exempt number – regions cannot have the same status; Can we find out about getting a no-profit number? Rommel will put this in the regional board report. Rachel Wilson – registration – people were using ASTE tax-exempt number to pay for regional conference things. We have no EIN number for a vendor form. Karen Irving - Can we use PayPal or some online payment method?Rachel Wilson – We could think about how to loop into the University for whoever is hosting the meeting but this could be problematic. Aimee Govett – can we get an EIN number and 503C (?) and maybe ASTE will help us with this process. Is North Eastern region separately registered? Currently we can only take cash or check.

VI. Growth – Rommel

Discussion about growth of regional group included questions such as “How many graduate students were here at the conference?”How many are here now [at business meeting]? The graduate students need to be here to understand how the organization works and keep the grad students involve.

HW assignment – if you know surrounding institutions that could belong to MA-ASTE let Rommel know and he will send out an invitation to them and encourage them to participate. Reach out to universities and remind people that they can still participate in MA-ASTE even if they move. VA is missing. Historically we have grown – last time we were here [OH] we were at 45 and now we are at 65. We need to be creative with the scheduling. Rommel will also email people from the old list and invite.
