Spelling and Grammar
- Type: "Microsft Word is phun !"
- Right click on Microsft, change to Microsoft
- Right click on phun, options not available, fix by hand
- Note: Green line has disappeared
o Go to next line, green line reappears
- Right click on green line, fix spacing error
- Type: "How now brown cow. The rain in spain falls mainly on the plane?"
- Fix Spain
- Discuss "?". Put one with How now… to fix grammar error
- Note that PLANE is the wrong one, but Word cannot tell
- Type a bunch of gibberish. Watch the spelling book follow your gibberish. Be sure to include punctuation errors (Spaces before punctuation).
- Right click on the spelling book and hide spelling errors
- Right click on the spelling book and hide grammatical errors
- Right click on the spelling book and view options
- Close and don't save the document
- Open the Tale-Tell Heart
- Double click on the spelling book to get to the first spelling error
- Double click on the spelling book to get to the first grammar error
- Continue to double-click on the spelling book and make a few changes
- Use the keyboard to right-click on an error
- Use the spelling and grammar button (or F7)
- Go through several corrections
- Have class finish corrections on their own
- Change options
o Turn off IGNORE WORDS IN UPPERCASE
o Turn on READABILITY STATISTICS
o Recheck Document
- Fix words where necessary
- Discuss statistics
o Average newspaper story: 70-80 (about eighth-grade level)
o John F. Kennedy's inaugural address ("Ask not what …"): 10.3
o Patrick Henry's "Give me liberty or give me death" speech: 6.6
- Show Word Count under Tools Menu
AutoCorrect
- Type: teh (space)
o Note 2 corrections made, undo both
- Type: Teh rain in Spain
o Note the little blue box that appears under "The"
- Tools->AutoCorrect Options…
- Show other AutoCorrect features
