Position Title:Learning Technology & Systems Development Specialist

Location:Michigan Virtual office, with possible up to 2 days remote weekly.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Learning Technology & Systems Development Specialist’s role is to research, develop and implement systems, processes and content that support the operational goals and strategic mission of Michigan Virtual related to delivering quality online and blended learning solutions to customers and partners. As a member of the Technology Integrations team, this position consults with program and project leaders to develop, implement and maintain web applications and systems that create and/or distribute content for online and blended learning environments. As an expert in learning tools and systems, this position actively researches new and innovative technologies that can enhance or improve current systems and tools, and also provides guidance, training and support to internal staff and external clients on the use and implementation of learning technologies. The ability to carefully listen, understand, and explain solutions to clients with a wide range of technical knowledge, as well as an overall commitment to customer service, is a must.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Applies knowledge of information and instructional systems applications, educational and learning contexts, and user experience design in the development of learning systems and web applications.
- Provides consultation to program and project leaders to determine project goals and objectives.
- Analyzes project goals and objectives to determine appropriate technology solutions.
- Serves as technical lead and/or contact on behalf of assigned programs and projects.
- Performs and supports on-going maintenance of developed solutions and responds to and corrects system interruptions.
- Creates required documentation for developed solutions.
- Provides systems-related support to staff, customers, and project partners.
- Works collaboratively with staff across the organization to troubleshoot instructional systems issues, develop solutions, and document solutions for future use.
- Provides guidance and delivers training to internal staff and external clients on the use and implementation of learning technologies in online and blended learning environments.
- Researches new and innovative learning tools and systems.
- Engages in continuous improvement of skills, knowledge and practices consistent with industry standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES & TASKS:

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS, & LICENSURES (minimum requirements):
▪Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Media Information and Technology, Educational Technology, or other related field; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE (minimum requirements):
▪2 or more years of web applications development experience with a major web content management system, such as Drupal, Joomla or SharePoint.
▪3 or more years of experience developing online content using HTML, HTML5, Cascading Style Sheets, and XML.
▪2 or more years of experience with developing online and/or other computer-based learning content.
▪Experience and demonstrated skill with a major learning management system, such as Brightspace, Moodle or Blackboard.
▪Experience with multimedia, graphic creation and course content development applications such as Articulate, Adobe CS2-6 Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver), Camtasia, Audacity, Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), or SoftChalk.
DESIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
▪Master’s degree in Computer Science, Media Information and Technology, Education, Educational Technology, or other related field; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
▪Experience with developing online or blended K-12 courses.
▪Experience as an online teacher, classroom teacher or trainer.
▪Experience in adult education or professional development for teachers.
▪Experience with Web 2.0 applications including social networking, blogs, wikis, etc.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (minimum requirements):
▪Knowledge of web design and development technologies including PHP, JavaScript, libraries such as jQuery, and web development frameworks, such as Bootstrap.
▪Knowledge of learning technology industry standards, such as IMS Global LTI® or Caliper Analytics ™.
▪Knowledge of responsive web design for multiple devices.
▪Demonstrated ability to create web accessible content.
▪Demonstrated knowledge of designing accessible user experiences.
▪Demonstrated knowledge of current WCAG.
▪Ability to implement new and emerging web application technology and services.
▪Aptitude for researching and learning new learning technology systems and tools.
▪Ability to manage aggressive schedules and shift priorities when needed.
▪Ability to take ownership of assigned tasks.
▪Detail oriented; assuring everything is correct and complete.
▪Completing repetitive tasks with accuracy.
▪Communicating clearly through writing and speaking.
▪Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work well with a team.
▪Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of stakeholders, students, teachers, and staff.

▪Ability to work a standard forty-hour week in the MVU office in Lansing, MI.
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
▪Database management and SQL.
▪Virtualization and prototyping in development environments.
▪Strong graphic design background and skills.
▪Strong understanding of accessibility guidelines.
