Position Description

Title: Research Assistant

Purpose: This position will provide project support for basic research, including document and data collection, data entry, data verification, and data analysis. The Research Assistant also provides support for the drafting of project reports related to the basic research tasks (e.g., descriptions of data elements, etc.), the Research Assistant also performs basic documentation and communication tasks such as completion of intake forms, drafting memos for committees/workgroups, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities:

·  Enters quantitative and qualitative data into various software packages and conducts data verification protocols in preparation for data analyses.

·  Setup and program various online data collection tools such as surveymonkey and RedCap.

·  Conducts basic data analysis under the direction of supervisor or Project Leaders.

·  Draft project reports including the description of results produced from data analyses.

·  Provides support for tracking and documenting project related communications and activities.

·  Conducts literature and information searches and reviews.

·  Participates in collecting data, traveling locally or statewide as necessary.

·  All other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator or project duties assigned by a Project Leader designated to assign tasking for a particular project.

·  Maintain a positive, strong, credible, professional and interpersonal relationship with all parties relevant of MPHI projects, and represent the best interest of MPHI at all times.

Qualifications/Requirements:

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Health Policy or Administration, or related social science field.

Experience: One to three years of related and progressively more responsible work experience in duties similar to those described above required.

Important Skills and Characteristics: Excellent oral and written communication skills and a strong client/customer orientation. Able to work well in team situations. Self-motivated, able to complete work in timely manner, and handle multiple tasks at one time with minimal supervision. Require proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (particularly in Word, Excel, and Access) and familiarity with email/internet browser software. Prefer basic working skills in SPSS.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements: Example: Job may require moderate physical effort including lifting materials and equipment of <50# and involves viewing a CRT or VDT screen 25% to 75% of the time. Standard office environment. May require valid vehicle operator’s license where needed to perform duties of the position.

The Research Assistant has a strong impact on the efficiency and integrity of the research and analysis conducted on the MPHI projects to which he/she is assigned. The Research Assistant is critical to the timely and efficient operation of a data-intensive research team.
