Michelle Caron – HBKin – 2010

I am a recent graduate of the College of Law at the University of Saskatchewan and current articling student with McAuley Law firm in Saskatchewan. My path through my decade of education has been an interesting one. I view the experiences I had at Lakehead University Kinesiology as invaluable in creating a positive lifestyle and informing my future goals. As a high school athlete and swim instructor, I wanted a program that I had a keen interest in the subject area while engaging in maintaining a healthy active lifestyle. I chose Kinesiology at Lakehead University and the principles learned through this program still echo in my current career and life. I am most grateful for those courses that have a practical component to them. I learned the most when I had the opportunity to make real life connections and have referred to these courses throughout my life. The courses that come to mind are Nutrition, Motor Development, Principles of Health, Musculoskeletal Injuries Lifestyle Coaching and Leadership. Most readily, I make reference to the Canoe trip as a unique highlight of witnessing untouched nature on a calm remote lake from the vantage point of a small boat. I have not received an opportunity quite like this and I look back on it fondly.

After graduatingfrom Kinesiology, I continued my education obtaining my Bachelor of Education and obtained employment in the Thunder Bay area. I completed my Master of Education at Lakehead University while working as a teacher. Working in remote communities encouraged me to seek out a new challenge to make meaningful change specifically for First Nation children. Housed in the University of Saskatchewan, the Native Law Centre solidified my choice to seek out the University of Saskatchewan College of Law. My goal is to continue my commitment to fostering empowerment for individuals through education, access to justice and positive lifestyle choices. My hope is that one day my education and practical experiences will lead me to a teaching position at a Faculty.
