Calculator: A scientific calculator is required (TI-84 recommended)

Course Description: Among the topics covered are:

Sets, Logic, Geometry, Counting Methods, Probability, and Statistics

Sections Covered: 2.1-2.5, 3.1-3.8, 10.1-10.5, 11.1-11.8, 12.1-12.4

Exams/Grading Policy: Your grade shall be based on four tests and a comprehensive final exam.

The four tests will have a 15 point review that will be added to an 85 point in-class portion.

Test dates shall be announced at least a week in advance. Chapters covered on each test and the

grading scale are shown below:

Test 1 Chapter 2 20% of grade A: 90% to 100%

Test 2 Chapter 3 20% of grade B: 80% to <90%

Test 3 Chapter 10 20% of grade C: 70% to < 80%

Test 4 Chapters 11-12 20% of grade D: 60% to < 70%

Final Exam Chapters 2, 3, 10-12 20% of grade F: < 60%

THERE IS NO EXTRA CREDIT!

IF A TEST IS MISSED, A MAKE-UP TEST MAY BE TAKEN LATER THAT DAY OR THE NEXT DAY. EACH STUDENT IS ALLOWED ONE MAKE-UP TEST.

YOUR LOWEST TEST SCORE MAY BE REPLACED BY YOUR FINAL EXAM SCORE.

IF A TEST IS NOT MADE-UP, IT WILL BE YOUR LOWEST TEST SCORE AND WILL BE REPLACED BY THE FINAL.

NOTES:

*Use of cell phones or other electronic devices for non-academic purposes is prohibited.

*Any form of academic dishonesty shall result in a grade of F as a minimum penalty.

* Students are responsible for any missed class work and/or announcements during their absence.

*This syllabus is considered as a contract between the instructor and the students. By remaining

in this class, students acknowledge and agree to the terms of the syllabus.

*Changes in the syllabus may be made at the instructor’s discretion.

*Knowledge of withdrawal policy and procedure is the student’s responsibility.

WITHDRAWAL DEADLINE FOR “W” GRADE: May 31

A student is not permitted to withdraw after the withdrawal deadline.

However, the professor may withdraw a student at any time because of excessive absences.

Any student who withdraws or is withdrawn from a class during a third or subsequent attempt in
