Trainer’s Profile
Joan Hunt - Joan is an independent Social Work Trainer Consultant who works with Child Care and partner agencies to provide a professional Training and Consultancy that reflects up to date theory, practice and legislation. She has delivered training to international audiences and education, health and legal professionals.
Joan draws heavily from her professional and personal experiences as former BAAF Trainer Consultant, Social Worker, Adoption Social Worker, Panel Chair, Disruption Chair, Parent and foster carer and applies this to her training with a strong focus on the Childs Lived Experience.

Adoptive parents, permanent carers, childrens social workers and supervising socialworkers
Parenting Siblings who have been abused and traumatised during their early years can be a very emotionally, challenging and sometimes scary experience. This training aims to provide adoptive parents and carers with a practical approach to parenting and managing sibling rivalry whilst creating a Secure Base for all the Family.
This training will draw on current research on attachment, developmental trauma, neurobiologyand incorporate the Secure Base parenting model. Its domains of Availability, Sensitivity, Acceptance, Cooperation and Family Membership will be explored and how these can enable parents to consider the unique needs of each child and navigate the complexities of the child’s exhibiting behaviour.
The day promises to be a valuable opportunity for parents and carers to network and learn from each other
  • Discuss the impact on the family of a childs past experience of abuse and truama.
  • To consider the application of the Secure Base parenting model to their day to day lives thus reducing the stress within the family setting.
  • Gain parenting strategies to help with daily routines and encouraging a more positive outlook and confidence to managing complex situations.
  • Have developed further ideas and insight to how parents can look after themselves and working with Support agencies.
