Ukhron, ICT Manager, Datacomm
Established in 1990, DatacommDiangraha is a leader in providing network infrastructure to customers such as Telkom Indonesia, Indosat, XL Axiata and Telkomsel in Indonesia and provides services for numerous enterprises and government agencies. Experiencing 240 percent growth in the past four years, the company’s existing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system could not support the rapid pace of growth. With the help from partner PT JatiPirantiSolusindo, the company chose to deploy Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 to deliver an integrated system to eliminate manual processes and boost growth and efficiency.
Situation
Based in Jakarta, Datacomm is the leading network infrastructure and solutions management and services in Indonesia. The company has seen a tremendous growth in the past four years, both in terms of size through doubling the number of employees, and experiencing 240 percent growth in business. The company currently employs 215 employees and runs 200 notebook PCs.
This increase in growth meant a corresponding rise in the number of transactions. Unfortunately, its existing Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system could not support the rapid growth. Sales, Purchasing and Logistics departments used one system while the Accounting department had deployed another, resulting in stand-alone processes and the manual inputting of data by the Accounting department. This process was time-consuming and prone to human error.
The company wanted a fully integrated system for order placement, sales, purchasing, logistics and project accounting records.
After deciding to build a new ERP system in 2007, the company began to investigate its options and invited proposals from three vendors. It worked closely with partner Jatis to develop 32 parameters to find the most suitable solution, including pricing, development, environment and navigation.
Solution
After careful consideration, the company chose to deploy Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009. The modules implemented are for finance, trade and logistics and project accounting. The new system enables the company to integrate its processes. For example, Datacomm can accurately determine the inventory value from its Accounting department, and the monthly accounting now takes around 15 days to close compared to over one month previously.
A further key criteria for choosing Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 was its user-friendly navigator and the functions that makes it easier to calculate taxes, which is in compliance with government regulations.
The company no longer has a dual system that is vulnerable to human error and manual data entry has been eliminated.
Benefits
Within six months of implementation, Datacomm expressed satisfaction with the integrated platform and believes it will help to boost business growth further.
Smooth Implementation
Among the key factors that led Datacomm to choose Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 was the fast and easy implementation. The project began in January and by July the company had started the migration process.
“The project was completed on time and it was quite an easy process, as we managed to minimize the number of customizations and followed the best practices provided by Microsoft. Microsoft has a great plan, which was a huge help for us at the ICT department and later helped our employees to adjust to the new system,” says Ukhron, ICT Manager, Datacomm.
Ukhron attributed the smooth process to the solid partnership of the entire team – the management, the key users, the technical team and the partner.
“After six months, the performance of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 has been excellent and it is extremely stable. We also have faster user adoption rate in learning the new system,” confirms Ukhron.
Competitive Pricing
The key word ‘pricing’ is repeatedly mentioned when Datacomm discusses the deployment of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009. The company was pleased that the new system minimizes costs but brings maximum benefits.
“Compared to other vendors studied, Microsoft Dynamics AX offered a very good price with benefits that match with our needs,” comments Faisal Lie, VP Financial Services, Datacomm.
Integrated Platform
As well as pricing, the company had other requirements, particularly related to inventory. Datacomm does not stock its products and solutions in advance, instead providing network infrastructure onlyproductonly on demand.
“We needed a system that could capture the serial number of each product used in every process, such as project manufacturing, purchasing and distribution. Dynamics is able to provide such specific system,” confirms Faisal.
