Message from Ms. Burke

Dear Team and Family –

Big thanks for your donations and attendance at our fall festival. We had such a good time and loved spending time with all our wolf families :)As we wrap up the month of October, I want to shout out all of you, our scholars and families, for your commitment to partnering with us. Every year, the month of November is a time of gratitude for me. I am so grateful to have the honor of working with all of you and our dedicated staff who are tirelessly ensuring that all scholars are getting what they need. I really can’t imagine a better line of work than what we get to do every day. Thank you for trusting us with your scholars each day! Looking forward to having families rsvp for this Friday’s chat with the principal and to seeing our second grade families next week at second grade breakfast with scholars in their classrooms.

Coffee with the Principal

This Friday November 3rd IDEA Walzem will be hosting our monthly coffee with the principal. This is an opportunity for you to chat with Ms. Burke and take a tour of the campus. If you would like to attend, please RSVP with Miss Rosie by Wednesday. We will be accepting the first 15 people. Thank you all so much and we hope to see you there.

Saturday School

This Saturday November 4th IDEA Walzem will be having Saturday school from 9:00-12:00. Invitations have already been sent out. We hope to see all of our invitees in attendance. In an effort to close the achievement gap, we are shooting for 100% attendance. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Thank you all so much!

Halloween 10-31-17

As we all know, this Tuesday is Halloween. Scholars may wear costumes but may NOT wear/bring masks or any type of weapon even if it is a part of their costume. In effort to honor our Healthy Kids initiative we ask that you NOT send your scholars with candy. We understand that Trick or Treating will take place, but please make every effort in keeping their candy at home. I would hate to take it and eat it all myself  especially skittles, starbursts and sour patch kids. Please be safe out there while trick or treating!

ADA Incentive Winners

The scholars listed below had perfect attendance this week and were chosen at random draw to select a prize for our trophy case:

Leah Hernandez, Lloyd Williams, Giselle Guillen, Ashley Soto, Jeremiah Bosquez & Brielle Brown!

Thank you parents for ensuring your scholars were at school every day last week! Let’s see who will win this week.

Items that are not Permitted in School

Fast food bags are not a healthy choice for breakfast or lunch. Please avoid sending your scholar to school with these items. Scholars may also not bring candy, gum or large bags of chips to school. We are working toward a healthy kids’ initiative this year! All Pokémon cards and toys should stay at home and any incentives earned at school must remain away during instructional time.

Wolf Binders

Please be sure to check your scholar’s wolf binder on a DAILY basis. There may be important notes from teachers, you can see how many wolf bucks your scholar earned that day, and there may be something that you need to return to school. The Wolf Binder is key to daily success for your scholar. Please help us reinforce responsibility, organization and safe-keeping!

ADA (Average Daily Attendance)

We’re about to start our 12th week of school and our attendance is already struggling. This week’s attendance was 97.36% which is below IDEA’s goal of 97.5%. Please help us by bringing your child to school every day and on time to ensure your child’s academic success since every minute counts.

AR Testing

Scholars can AR test, in their quest to become Word Masters and Royal Readers, any morning during homeroom. Scholars must first check in with their homeroom teacher. Only scholars are permitted in the AR Zone during this am time. We currently have 66 word masters. Let’s continue to encourage our scholars to have a book in hand and read, read, read!

Grade Level Class DOJO Winners – Leaders of the Pack!

Please help us congratulate our mighty 2nd grade scholars for winning our DOJO Challenge last week. This means that Monday 2nd grade scholars may wear crazy shoes. They may also wear and their Leaders of the Pack bracelet. Keep up the great work, Kinder!

Student Safety

To ensure the safety of our students, families may not drop off students outside of the gate. Please drop them off on campus in the designated drop off area. The risk of accidents in not following this rule is too great. It also causes delays in traffic for families that are trying to drop their students off on campus. Safety should always be first.

Thank you all so much!

Star Student & Core Value Winners

Please help us congratulate our 6 Star Students and our 6 core value winners. This week’s core value was No Excuses. These scholars exemplified this core value each day this week by working hard completing their lessons and giving 100% on their BWAs and giving no excuses. Please continue to encourage your scholars to give their absolute best every day!

Health Aide Corner

Hi families over the past several weeks we have noticed a trend on why scholars are absent. Stomach viruses & colds are among the leaders of reasons. Please remind your scholars to wash their hands and use hand sanitizer whenever possible. While we can’t help when our scholars get sick we can try and be proactive in preventing illnesses. As we approach Flu season the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) recommends to get the Flu shot by the end of October. Please reach out to your scholars Pediatrician for any questions regarding the Flu and seasonal illnesses.
