MES Student Council News

As the holiday season approaches, helping those less fortunate often comes to mind. MES Student Council will be collecting gifts in our lobby for two non-profit organizations. Starting on the morning of December 5th and continuing to the 22nd, the student council will collect gifts for Family and Children Services in Carroll County, as well as the forgotten pets at the Baltimore County Humane Society.

Consider bringing in a small toy for Family and Children Services in Carroll County or pet food for the Baltimore County Humane Society. Below is a detailed list of items that can be donated to the Humane Society. Students may bring in their unwrapped gift or donation to the school’s lobby and place it under our Giving Tree.

They will receive an ornament, write their name on it and hang it on the tree.

Character Trait for December is

“Contribution”

It is a powerful lesson when children realize that the world is a better place because they are in it. Children who understand the importance of personal contribution gain a sense of purpose that can motivate them. They will not only take actions and make choices that improve the world, but they will also enhance their own competence, character and sense of connection. Young people who contribute to the well-being of others will receive gratitude rather than condemnation. They will learn that contributing feels good, and may therefore more easily turn to others.

Before we can foster this sense of contribution, here are some things to consider:

  • Do I teach the important values of serving others? Do I model generosity?
  • Do I make clear to my children that I believe they can improve the world?
  • Do I create opportunities for each child to contribute in some specific way?
  • Do I search my child’s circle for other adults who might serve as role models who contribute to their communities and the world?
  • Do I use these adults as examples to encourage my children to be the best that they can be?
  • Do I communicate to my children that many people in the world do not have as much human contact, freedom, money and security as they need?

SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS NEEDED!

Are you looking for a rewarding career opportunity, possibly within close proximity to your residence, work days that provide you the same school holidays as your student(s), and perhaps an opportunity to transport your own children and save on the cost of daycare? If you like to be around children/ students and believe you can be a positive role model, perhaps you should give thought to driving a yellow school bus for the Carroll County Public Schools.

School bus drivers are the first and last persons representing our school system that interact with students every school day. Driving a school bus is not as hard as you might think. It does require a commercial driver’s license and approximately thirty (30) hours of paid training on average, but the CCPS Transportation Services Department driver instructors will help you acquire the necessary skills and knowledge needed to be a successful school bus driver.

If you have a clean driving record with no prior criminal record, please consider contacting Mrs. Dianne Grote, President of the Carroll County School Bus Contractors Association at 410-848-4649 or 410-876-7530, ext. 101. There are several bus contractors currently looking for drivers.

Thank you for considering this most rewarding profession.
