Job Title: Support Worker

Responsible to: Hours of Working:

Registered Manager Temporary, Part Time – Hours to be arranged plus sleep-in and on-call duties.

Salary:

£9.31 per hour+sleeping in allowance of £35 per night + on-call payment of £15

Aim: To support the tenants at 24 Meriden Street to manage their own lives. Assisting them in making decisions for themselves, whether in everyday matters or in long term major life issues. To encourage an enabling environment where people are valued for their individuality, where their opinions are actively sought and valued and their skills and abilities are recognised and can develop appropriately and positively.

Duties and Responsibilities

Housing

·  Working with tenants and staff to ensure that the property is maintained and Health & Safety standards are upheld at all times within Meriden Street. This will include ensuring access ways, steps, corridors, electrical equipment and all fixtures and fittings comply with safety standards at all times.

·  Working with staff to undertake minor repairs and/or organising for contractors to undertake more substantial repairs or breakdowns. Obtaining quotes, schedules and monitoring of all work carried out.

·  Cooking duties for up to 6 tenants and supporting tenants in the preparation of food and general domestic tasks.

·  Working with tenants and staff to ensure that Health & Safety and Health & Hygiene regulations are adhered to by all people using the kitchen, recording information as appropriate.

·  Undertaking general domestic tasks and gardening, liaison with contractors as necessary.

·  Ensuring that security/access procedures are followed and discreet supervision of visitors.

Liaison

·  Working with tenants and staff to build links with the wider community and to promote a positive attitude to people with learning disabilities.

·  Liaising and co-ordinating alongside staff, tenants and independent representation i.e. advocacy, with a wide range of people and agencies e.g. friends, relatives, medical professionals, social workers, advisory members, educational or leisure services, also receiving and disseminating information between these interested parties, whilst adhering to confidentiality policies.

·  Arranging and attending meetings, both internally and externally.

·  Dealing with emergency services as appropriate e.g. police, ambulance.

Tenants

·  To support tenants in a large number of daily interactions with a wide range of people and agencies and supporting them to make informed decisions, ranging from day to day activities to major life choices.

·  To encourage tenants to become active members of the co-operative, enabling them to be part of the decision making process.

·  Supporting tenants with their general health and well-being, image- personal hygiene, diet and medication, including domiciliary care tasks as required.

·  Supporting tenants to access day opportunities, college courses, voluntary work or paid employment, depending on their wishes and needs.

·  Dealing with inappropriate behaviour e.g. verbal or physical aggression. It may also involve working with the individual and those who may be feeling threatened or intimidated.

·  Acting as a key worker for a small number of people. Assisting them to plan for the future and supporting them to make choices and realise ambitions through their regular “Personal Planning” meetings. Developing positive relationships with all tenants, based on mutual trust and respect.

·  Adhering to confidentiality procedures at all times.

Administrative

·  General Office Duties e.g. answering phones, recording information, filing, typing, computer usage, updating records etc.

·  Assisting with finance – tenant’s personal finances, co-op finances, issues and recording of petty cash, recording & payment of invoices.

·  Ordering, recording and administering medication.

·  Adhering to the Data Protection Action and working within the co-op’s confidentiality, computer and internet policies.

Management

·  Assisting with the induction and training of new and relief staff.

·  Planning the staff rota and organising staff cover.

·  Contributing to the effectiveness of working practices, moving the work forward as part of a team but using own initiative and creativity, to work independently where appropriate.

·  Any other duties, within your capabilities, which will assist in the efficient running of the Co-operative and the fulfilment of the tenants needs.

All duties will involve working alongside tenants and staff to promote equal opportunities and non-oppressive attitudes; supporting tenants and staff with particular cultural, religious and dietary needs, respecting and actively assisting them in practising their beliefs.
